Tag: What the Bible says about the baptism of the Holy Spirit

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-22-26

Acts 2:38 (NKJV) 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

As we established previously, the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for all believers. God has offered the gift of the Holy Spirit to anyone who has the faith to receive Him. This gift is for you.

To receive Him, we must first be born again.

The person who will be filled must have the indwelling of God’s Spirit, which takes place at the time of our salvation through Christ. That happens when we repent of our sins, believe and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. He comes and dwells in us.

To receive the infilling, or baptism of the Holy Spirit, we must ask.

When we ask, we do so believing that God will baptize us with the Holy Spirit. And it will be done as we have faith in Him to do so.

We must be willing to open our mouths and let the Holy Spirit speak through us. No matter what it sounds like, we need to be willing to let it flow out!

We cannot be embarrassed, or fear what others may think about us when the Holy Spirit is upon us. We simply need to obey Him.

Whatever we say or do when the Holy Spirit is moving in us will always be aligned with scripture. He will never have us say or do anything contrary to God’s word.

Below is our prayer for you.

Dear God in Heaven,

We pray for the person today who is seeking your gift of the Holy Spirit. We ask that You will meet them where they are, and fill them, just as You have promised that You will fill us. We stand in agreement, believing Your words and receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, In the name of Jesus Christ.

Have Your way Holy Spirit. We surrender to You. We will open our mouths and let Your words flow from our tongue.

We praise You, God. Pray through me today. Amen

Acts 2:4 (NKJV) 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-21-26

Acts 19:6 (NKJV) 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

While Paul was in Ephesus, he found some disciples in the area. He asked them a very important question; did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?

They answered that they did not. And they admitted that they didn’t even know about the Holy Spirit.

How many of us today know about the Holy Spirit and the gifts He has for us to walk in? Are we trying to do God’s work without Him?

Paul laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. And they prayed in tongues and prophesied.

We can see here that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was not limited to the day of Pentecost. These believers were clearly not in the upper room with the others when Paul prayed for them.

But they received the Holy Spirit on this day, an unspecified period of time after they had come to believe.

Paul also spent time teaching the Corinthians that there are gifts of the Holy Spirit.

He wanted to help bring order to the meetings regarding the use of these gifts.

He addressed the fact that various spiritual gifts have been given to each one. And then he named the gifts or manifestations of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:7-10 (NKJV) 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

As you can read here, these gifts were given after the day of Pentecost for people who were not in the upper room.

Paul named them each; word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, different kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues.

You can see that tongues was a gift among those he listed.

As Paul addressed the Corinthian believers, He was teaching them how to keep order within the church while moving in the gifts.

1 Corinthians 14:27-32 (NKJV) 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

The people who received these gifts were believers; followers of Christ. They are not given to unbelievers.

If we are God’s children, these gifts are for us today, to bring edification to the body and to glorify our Father in Heaven.

Acts 11:16 (NKJV) 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Let us diligently seek God, to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and walk in the gifts that He gives to empower us for service, to witness, for spiritual warfare, and for boldness to speak truth, bringing glory and honor to Him!

We will finish this tomorrow!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-20-26

Acts 1:4-5 (NKJV) 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

“John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

It is very important to note that Jesus commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father.

It was critical for them to be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Why?

Because their mission required what the Holy Spirit had for them; Power!

Power to be witnesses for Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth.

Acts 1:8 (NKJV) 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

This mission could only be fulfilled by supernatural power from on High.

The day of Pentecost came when they were all in one accord, in one place; an upper room.

He came and filled each one of them. And they began to speak with other tongues.

Acts 2:4 (NKJV) 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Some may ask, was this just for the disciples in those days? Can anyone be baptized in the Holy Spirit, or was it limited for just that one time?

Tomorrow we will dive deeper into this topic and see what the word of God shows us.
