Bible Verse of The Day – 3-18-14

Proverbs 11:11 (NKJV) By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Did you know that your presence and my presence in a city can bring blessings to that city?

As children of God, our presence in a place brings God’s blessing upon that place. We carry His presence wherever we go.

Because God’s spirit is in us, our presence can drive demonic forces away from a place. This holds true for towns, cities, places of employment, schools we attend and more.

Does it mean everything around us will be trouble-free? Of course not, but it does mean that wherever we go, God will be there with us. And wherever God is, there is His blessing.

On the contrary, wherever there is wickedness, the city will be overthrown by that wickedness.

It can be pretty easy to spot areas that are full of wickedness. There is no peace and there is constant trouble. Wickedness brings chaos and strife.

So today, remember that the place where you live is being blessed because of your presence in that town, and God’s presence in you.

Be blessed today and enjoy the presence of God in your life.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-17-14

Matthew 5:14-16 (NKJV) 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

We are the light of the world!

Jesus told us that we are the light of the world. He also said that we are to let our light shine before men so that our Father in heaven may be glorified.

This gives us a huge responsibility. It means that we can’t just sit back and hold God’s light within us, hoarding it four ourselves. Instead, we need to let that light shine to those we come into contact with, each and every day.

We work with people, go to school with people, interact with people outside of our home everywhere we go. It is these very people who need God’s hope and love. And it is through us that they will see Him, if we let them.

But don’t take this wrong. This does not mean that we need to preach to everyone we see. This means that we are to love them. We need to treat them kindly, with respect, with compassion, mercy and without judging them.

It is this kind of love and this kind of interaction that will let God’s light shine through us onto them and into their lives.

You may ask “how will they know it’s God’s love if we don’t share the gospel with them or if we don’t tell them that it’s God’s love?”. They will know because it is different than what they are accustomed to.

Love people. Smile and say hello. Be pleasant. After all, isn’t this what we would like others to do for us? And isn’t this what God has told us to do?

Let your light shine!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-15-14

Matthew 5:7 (NKJV) Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

God is merciful. He has shown each and every one of us mercy. We are all deserving of punishment for our sins. But He saw fit to bestow mercy upon us instead of judgment.

So how do we treat others?

Are we merciful to others, or are we harsh and judgmental? Do we allow people to make mistakes without jumping down their throats, or do we jump all over them at the first little thing that they do wrong?

According to Jesus, if we wish to obtain mercy, we need to give mercy.

So are we doing this? Are we sowing mercy?

Nothing deep or philosophical here. Just some straight truth to help us stay on the right track.

Honor God and enjoy your weekend.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-14-14

(Psalm 1:1-2 NKJV)  Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; {2} But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Meditating on God’s word helps us to stay sensitive to the things that please Him. The more we keep our thoughts and heart pure, the easier it gets to do the right things throughout our day. We are blessed if we can stay clear of the things that are not pleasing to God.

In order to stay clear of the things that are not godly, we must be strong in our spirit man, and to get strong we need to meditate on His word, letting it penetrate the deepest part of our heart.

Enjoy your time with Him. God is faithful!!

(Psalm 37:4 NKJV)  Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-13-14

Genesis 2:24 (NKJV) Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman. It’s ordained by God to be a lifetime commitment to each other.

Sadly, today’s society has been quite successful at trying to tear marriage apart and destroy the sanctity of it. It has become just as common for people to get divorced as it has for people to stay together. Maybe even more common…

There are so many factors that play into a happy, successful marriage. It’s safe to say that it’s way too deep to cover in this email message.

Anyone reading this who has been through a divorce can attest to the devastation that takes place when a divorce happens. It’s a deep thing that nobody can fully explain. And that’s because it’s a spiritual bond that’s being torn apart when a couple separates permanently.

But let us just say that, regardless what people say, marriages today can still work and they can still last. It just takes work and it takes a 100% commitment from both, the husband and the wife. If either person gives less than 100%, the marriage is going to be fighting an uphill battle.

Yesterday, March 12, Pastor Ellie and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary. We thank God for our lasting relationship and the fact that we can be a living testimony, showing the world that marriages can still work!

Has it always been easy? Heck, no! Our relationship has always been strong, but as a couple we have faced some tremendous battles in our lives. Whether it has been financial battles or anything else, God has brought us through them all with victory. And we give Him all the glory and honor.

So take heart, children of God! There is still hope for a strong and successful marriage, even in these dark times that we’re living in.

Trust God and put Him first in everything, and He will lead you every step of the way.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-12-14

(Psalm 9:10 NKJV)  And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Putting our trust in God and seeking Him is how we move ahead in our lives each day.

Trust Him in the good times and bad. Seek Him in the good times and bad.

We are  human and at times we get fearful. Fear cancels out trust and trust cancels out fear.

Some of us may be dealing with illness, some may be dealing with losing our job, some with marital issues, some with abuse, some with drug addictions. Some may be dealing with school issues, etc.

These are all things that can cause us to be fearful for we know what the consequences can be if these situations don’t change.

We don’t want to ignore the fear that we feel, but we can take what is causing us to be fearful and bring it to God. Tell Him about it, seek Him and let Him walk us through it.

We may think that because it is our fault that we are in the situation we are in that God won’t help us. But that’s not true. God knows we are far from perfect, and we’re going to make mess ups.

But nevertheless, He understands and He truly wants to help. He will not forsake those who seek Him, whether it was our fault or not.

Do we know His name today? Yes… Jesus Christ! Do we put our trust in Him and do we seek Him? Yes…every step of the way!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-11-14

Proverbs 10:12 (NKJV) Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins.

This is a very simple, straight forward verse that speaks so much to us if we let it.

Hatred runs rampant in the world these days. It has become a way of life for millions and millions of people, including so very many of God’s children… followers of Christ.

Evil has devastated so many of us in many different ways. And the after-effect of these attacks is bitterness and hatred toward the perpetrators.

It’s a hard thing sometimes to lay aside hate and love someone who has hurt you. We will never claim that it’s easy to do. But it’s something that we are commanded to do by God himself.

And Jesus taught this very thing in this verse:

Matthew 5:44 (NKJV) But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you…

Love is from God. Hatred and bitterness come from the enemy.

What will we choose to do? It’s our choice.

Let it be love.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-10-14

(Psalm 119:27 NKJV)  Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wondrous works.

Last night we went down to the beach and sat at a place we like to call “The Overlook”. As we sat there, we watched a beautiful sunset.

We meditated on God’s wondrous work in that sunset. We could see His beauty, His magnificence, His calmness, His excellence and His might!

What an Awesome God we serve! Take time today and notice His wondrous works. He has blessed us with such beautiful things to enjoy, and best of all they are free!

Praise be to God!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-8-14

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Tests and trials come our way constantly.

Sometimes they make us feel like our guts are being ripped out, and we begin to question whether we will make it through or not.

Well, we are here to tell you that you can make it through.

You can’t do it on your own, but with Christ, you can.

Christ is our rock, our foundation and our fortress. He is our source of strength, no matter what we’re going through.

It doesn’t matter if it’s financial struggles, relationship trials, health problems or any other battle that might come our way.

If we try to face it on our own, we will surely fall. But if we lean on Him and trust Him for the answers, victory will come.

Let go today. As hard as it is, let go. Hand it over to God and cling to the hand of Jesus. He has already won the victory for us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-7-14

Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

We are His workmanship.

God created us. And He did so with a purpose for each and every one of us.

We’re not here just to wander through time and leave here at the end of our lives with no legacy.

We have been placed here, ordained by God, to walk out His will for us on the earth. So what is His will for us?

That we would walk in the good works that he has prepared for us beforehand.

Once we understand our fallen condition and recognize our need for a Savior and act on that need by accepting the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross, we are now in Christ Jesus, as the verse above mentions.

It is then that we begin our journey, walking on the path that God prepared for us. It is then that we begin showing the world who God is through our good works, letting God’s love shine through us and onto those around us.

So remember. We are His workmanship and were created with a purpose. Let’s walk in that purpose.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-6-14

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Put God First.

We often receive emails from people asking us how to know what God’s purpose is for their life. We also get emails asking us how to become closer to God.

Have you ever wondered about this in your own life?

The answer to this is actually in the two questions above.

You see, the key to knowing God’s purpose for your life is to draw closer to God. So as we spend time pondering on how to become closer to God, we’re also delaying finding our purpose in life.

So how do we know our purpose in life? Here’s the key.

We stop worrying about what our purpose is. We spend time drawing near to God and pressing in to Him, growing our relationship with Him.

As we do this, we become more in tune with His spirit and learn to hear His voice more clearly and as we build our relationship with Him, we also become more obedient. And this happens without us even thinking specifically about what our purpose is!

So today, if we are children of God, instead of worrying about “trying to find our purpose” in life, let’s just press in to Him and learn to love Him, being thankful and obedient.

In doing this, we will begin to walk out His calling and purpose for our lives without having to “work at it” so hard and spend so much time trying to figure out what it is that we’re “supposed to be doing”.

As we do this, we will develop a huge sense of peace in our lives that we’ve never known before and we will know that we are on the path God has set before us.
