Bible Verse of The Day – 10-6-14

1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV) 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Sometimes people can really irritate us.

You know, they can do things or say things that offend us. They can do things that we know are wrong and then land themselves in trouble because of it. And it’s easy for us to stand at a distance and shake our head and talk about how they need to get their act together.

But what do we do about it? Do we pray for them, or do we criticize them? Do we have compassion for them or do we judge them? Do we offer help or do we laugh each time they stumble and fall?

It’s almost always easier to take the latter of all of these choices. Helping people takes work. And sometimes it takes hard work. Are we willing to work hard to help someone else?

But more importantly, it takes love to help others out of their situations.

We can work all we want to help someone, but if we don’t love them and show them God’s love through our words and our actions, we aren’t helping to change their lives except on the surface and for the moment.

You see, love conquers all.

Offering physical labor is fine. Offering money is fine. Many things like this are fine. But if they are done without love, they are just motions that we are going through. And in the long run, they won’t make a shred of difference in anyone’s life.

So ask God how we can show them love. And if we can’t find it within ourselves to love others then we need to go back to the Father and ask Him to forgive us for our hardened heart. And then we need to ask Him to teach us how to love them.

Regardless of what people may think about this situation or that situation or condition, in the end there is really only one thing that will make a difference in the life of someone else. And that thing is love.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-4-14

Proverbs 15:22 (NKJV) 22 Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.

Sometimes we just need the help and counsel of others.

None of us has everything we need to get through life. We all need others at one time or another during our lives.

Sometimes we need someone to listen to us. Sometimes we need someone to pick us up when we’re down. Other times we need someone to set us straight when our attitude stinks.

And then there are times when we just can’t seem to figure something out and we need the advice or counsel of someone godly who has already walked through what we’re struggling with. It’s just normal.

God didn’t create us to know everything. We have weaknesses, shortcomings and inabilities. There’s not a single one of us who can do everything all the time. We just need to learn to lean on God and pay attention when He brings others into our lives that can help us.

If we’re struggling with getting past something that we’ve wrestled with for months, or even for years, then we need to humble ourselves and get the counsel and advice of someone who can help us.

Sometimes it might be a person who has walked through the very same thing. Other times it might be someone who has a specific understanding or knowledge of something that you want to understand better.

If you’re terrible with finances, you need the help of someone who is good with finances.

If you’re terrible with relationships, you need the help of someone who is good with relationships. And so on.

Let’s face it. If you were going to build a house yourself and had no idea how to do it, you wouldn’t ask for help from someone who has never built a house! You’d ask an experienced carpenter. If you wanted to fix your car yourself, you’d find someone who understands mechanical things to give you advice.

So if we’re stuck in a rut and can’t seem to get past certain things or obstacles in our life, we need the counsel and help of someone godly who can help us!

We can’t be too proud or stubborn to ask for help.

Seek God and heed His direction, and accept the help that comes your way.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-3-14

Ecclesiastes 3:4 (NKJV) 4 A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance…

This verse encourages us to weep, to laugh, to mourn and to dance.

There are going to be times when we will find ourselves doing these very things and there is nothing wrong with doing any of them.

Some people get upset when they see grown men cry. They may think it’s not right for men to cry. Well, Jesus cried.

John 11:35 (NKJV) 35 Jesus wept.

It’s OK for men to weep and let it out. Some people may not even know how to cry, because they were taught to be strong and hold those tears back.

In order for us to be able to laugh again, sometimes we may need to weep; get some things off our chest, so to speak. It may be the very thing we need to do in order to let some things go.

Mourning is another one. There will be times when we need to mourn. How will we ever get past letting something go if we don’t take the time to mourn? Go ahead and mourn. This is a natural process that we must go through if we ever want to be able to laugh and dance again!

The important thing to remember is that this verse says, there is, “a TIME”, meaning we shouldn’t remain weeping or mourning forever. There comes a time of laughing and dancing as well!

If you find yourself stuck in mourning for someone or something and you can’t seem to get past it, there may be something that you are struggling with letting go of or facing. It’s going to take you asking God to show you what you are still hanging onto and why. He will help you with this as you sincerely seek Him for the answer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-2-14

Colossians 2:8 (NKJV) 8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

People like to offer their opinions on lots of things.

Sadly, many of these people who speak out with their opinions are propagating false teachings and philosophies that get passed off as truth because it sounds good or it might have a hint of a scripture in it somewhere.

Many of these people end up being looked up to as authorities or teachers, as they use modern means of communications, and they develop large followings.

The end result of this is hundreds of thousands, or even millions of people being easily misled by these false teachings or empty philosophies.

Why? Because they lacked proper teaching in their lives, leaving themselves open to easy deceit.

And, sadly, so many of these things are passed around by Christians because they heard someone else say it and they failed to check God’s word to see if it was valid or not.

It is so very important that we, as followers of Christ, know God’s word and are discerning in every area of our lives.

God tells us to be diligent and know His word!

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

As we learn more of His word, we will be less apt to fall for some of the crazy things that get passed off as truth in this world.

So, we urge you to learn God’s word and let Him sharpen your discernment so that you won’t be cheated through philosophy, empty deceit, the traditions of men or the principles of the world. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-1-14

Luke 22:42 (NKJV) 42 saying, Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Jesus’ prayer to the Father was “not My will, but Yours, be done”. Jesus humbled Himself under the Mighty Hand of His Father and obediently followed Him in every step. He was perfect in every way and did exactly what God had for Him to do.

There are going to be times when we will have to humble ourselves and do what God is asking us to do versus what we would rather be doing. It may be unfamiliar territory and very intimidating at times, doing what God asks.

Will we humble ourselves and do it anyway? This is a decision we will have to make. God will not force us to do things His way, but He will show us the right path to take and leave it up to us.

If we choose to follow His plan, trusting Him, He will be right there helping us, guiding us, encouraging us, comforting us, strengthening us, and providing for us. We won’t be alone.

When we follow God’s plan for our lives, we come out victorious!
