Bible Verse of The Day – 5-9-20

Romans 7:17 (NKJV) 17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

When we become a child of God, we are born again!! We are saved and have eternal life.

Some people may say, “well, I still feel like the same person. I still do some of the same old things. I mess up and I am very tempted at times”.

Though our flesh is still very weak and tempted, if we let our mind be renewed, we will eventually think and act more like Christ. We will begin to change, little by little. He will help us overcome our weaknesses toward the sin that tries to lure us in.

Why is it that at times we do the very thing we want so badly not to do?

Romans 7:25 (NKJV) 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

Because of our old man, the flesh and our carnality that loves sin is still living in us. It didn’t magically disappear when we got saved or put our faith in Christ as our Lord and Savior. It still shares the same house, temple, or body.

We have to learn how to overcome those awful habits and desires of the flesh. We do this by learning to walk according to the Spirit.

Yes, it takes time, with many mistakes in between. But don’t walk around depressed all the time, or feeling like a failure. Acknowledge our weaknesses and let Christ strengthen us in those areas. It’s a beautiful part of our growth in Him!

Romans 8:1-2 (NKJV) 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Our old man, the unsaved flesh, will work hard at being in charge, trying to keep those bad habits going. Shut it down and let the Spirit of God show us how to walk as sons/daughters of God.

Romans 8:14 (NKJV) 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-8-20

Romans 2:4 (NKJV) 4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

As I was studying in the book of Romans this morning, I began getting revelation of a few different things that I had never paid much attention to before. God was opening my eyes to things that I had not seen in the past, even though I had read them many times.

In the verse above, I caught the last phrase in particular; “not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance”.

Many people talk about the mercy of God toward sinners. We often hear about this mercy in the sense that it keeps us from being destroyed by God’s wrath. And this is very true.

Today, though, I got understanding that there is more to His mercy than just sparing us from punishment.

Sometimes using different translations can shed light on things that we might not otherwise see. So, let’s take a look at the words above in a different translation and see what it reveals.

Romans 2:4 (NLT) 4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

Romans 2:4 (NIV) 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

Take a look at the last part of both of those. Notice what it says? It clearly states that God’s kindness (mercy) is intended to lead us to repentance (away from our sin).

So, it’s important that we understand this and not mistake His mercy (kindness) as a license to continue in our sinful ways.

This devotional is not meant in any way at all to point a finger at anyone or make accusations.

Instead, it is meant to help us better understand God’s mercy in action in each of our lives, leading us to appreciate that mercy even more, because we all need it in action as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-7-20

1 Corinthians 7:24 (NKJV) 24 Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called.

Remain in God!

So many things can try to remove us or distract us from the things that God has for us to do.

The enemy loves to get us off track. He will try anything to cause us to be distant from God. He will put blocks, hurdles and great big mountains in the way. He will try and throw anything our way to knock us off the path God has for us.

But we must continue in God!

No weapon formed against us shall beat us or take us out. Remember that when we get hit so hard, and we think we are going to give up or die. This is not the end of the road.

Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV) 17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.

Things may change from the way we are used to doing them, but it will not take us out. We need to change with it, but keep going. That’s what is called persevering.

Don’t lose sight because of all the battles we have faced. Remember what it is that God has set before us, and keep pressing in.

Don’t stop walking the road He has just because of a changed situation. We all need to stay focused and remain in God. He will lead the way.

Psalm 61:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-6-20

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Peace can be hard to find sometimes, especially if we look for it in the wrong places.

There are many things that bring us anything but peace.

It could come from our jobs, our finances, our health, and a lengthy list of other things that vary from one person to another.

Sometimes the situations we face may seem too big to overcome. These kinds of things can cause us to lose hope if we’re not careful to keep our eyes on God.

As we focus on the problem, instead of focusing on God and what He says, it grows bigger and bigger in our eyes. This is just our perception, though, and the enemy can use this to cause us to feel desperate.

We need to tell our minds to be quiet and we need to seek God’s wisdom in the midst of our trials. He will never steer us wrong.

His word is a light to us in dark times. And there is no situation too big for Him to help us overcome.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-5-20

Job 1:1 (NKJV) 1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.

I’d say that Job got hit! Here he was, a good and blameless man. Despite that, though, God allowed satan to take away his family and his material wealth.

Someone said to me, “why would God let satan do that to Job? He was a good man”.

Job 1:12 (NKJV) 12 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.”

We are not going to understand everything that God does and the reasons that He has for doing them. We need to accept that.

God has His reasons and His ways that are far more than what we will ever comprehend.

There are things in this life we will not have answers for, and all we can do is trust Him.

Trust Him in what ways? Trust He will bring good from it all. Trust He will turn it around and we will come out of it safe, sound and whole. Trust that we will grow, even in such a time of sadness, sorrow, loss and pain. Trust He knows what He is doing.

There is no doubt that Job was going through a lot. I mean, to lose so much all at once. His family was gone,  and his financial situation changed overnight, etc.  And then, sickness hit his body.

But not once would he curse God or let anything bad slip from his lips. Instead, he fell to his knees and worshiped Him. That’s something to be in awe of right there. Because, after so great of a loss, it’s so easy to lose faith and give up. So easy to say foolish things and have wrong thoughts. So very easy to let our hearts get hard and turn away from God.

Job 1:20-22 (NKJV) 20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” 22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

Someone may say, “it’s just not fair. He was a good man. I thought when you live good and do things right, you will be blessed and protected from satan”.

We are blessed. We are protected. But we are also tested at times.

If we notice in this next verse, God gave him into satan’s hand. But with stipulations. He says, “spare his life.”

Job 2:6 (NKJV) 6 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.”

The most important thing to take with us from this is that God knew His man, Job! Before any of this took place, God knew that Job loved Him. God knew that Job would not fail the test or trial he was about to face. He knew Job!

And that is the trust we need to have. God knows us better than we would ever know ourselves. He is our rock and salvation, no matter what we go through or are facing.

God ultimately brought healing, and He blessed Job’s land.

Job 42:12-13 (NKJV) 12 Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. 13 He also had seven sons and three daughters.

Are we in a trial or test right now? What will we do, curse God and die? Or will we trust Him and let Him deliver us?

He knows us better than we know ourselves!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-4-20

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV) 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

We will face many things in life that seem impossible. And, in reality, some of them are impossible from a natural point of view.

But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible that unpaid bills somehow mysteriously get paid. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible that God could use us because we are untrained and uneducated. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible that our “incurable disease” be cured. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God, But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible for a sinner to be saved. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible for a drug addict to be set free and made whole again. But with God, all things are possible.

With men, it might be impossible for a person who lived a Godless life to repent on their death bed and enter into the kingdom of God. But with God, all things are possible.

You see, God will not be kept in a box. He is no respecter of persons. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts.

And though some of the things He does may not make sense to our heads, we need to be thankful for that!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-2-20

1 Chronicles 16:34 (NKJV) 34 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

There is so much to be thankful for, even in the midst of a storm, a change or uncertainties.

God is always right there to show us that He is aware of the situation.

Fear and anxiety can distract us from seeing His hand moving. If we are in the middle of it and can’t see what is happening, it’s OK. Look to Him. God can see it all. Follow Him, and He will lead us out. He is our strength and shield.

Many times, while going through this kind of dilemma we will miss the good stuff because we’re too focused on the bad. Let’s set out to see all that God wants to show us. Let our hearts trust Him.

Start off by thanking Him today. Thank Him for the things that we can see. For instance, a hot shower. These kinds of things are always so overlooked. But if we didn’t have water, we sure would be in a mess. How about that breakfast that filled our tummies, and a hot cup of tea, or coffee?

We may not even realize this with everything taking place, but what about that spouse, that friend, or that child that gave us a hug today and showed us how much they love us or appreciate us?

And when we go to leave our home, we get into a vehicle that starts up, that has fuel to take us where we need to go. The list could go on and on.

So much to be thankful for today!

One of the things that we are grateful for today is the fact that you all are praying for us, supporting and standing with us, even in a time like this, and even checking in to make sure we are alright. That means the world to us. Thank you so much. You really are God-sent.

He is so good. Don’t think for a moment He doesn’t have our best interest at heart. We are safe with Him.

Psalm 28:7 (NKJV) 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.

Sing to Him today!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-1-20

John 15:18-19 (NKJV) 18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

It should come as no surprise when the world hates us because of our faith.

We do, after all, stand against almost everything the world stands for.

Furthermore, just our presence brings conviction to many, even if we speak no words. Their actions bring guilt when they see us because they know we carry the presence of Christ with us.

Sometimes being disliked or hated by people can be tough to take. It’s hurtful. It makes us feel like outcasts.

But it’s what Jesus said would happen.

John 15:20 (NKJV) 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

Because He was persecuted and hated, we should also expect to be persecuted and hated because of Him.

On the brighter side, though, take a look at that last sentence: If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

What does that mean?

It means that there will be some who, because they would have accepted His words, will also accept ours, when we share the truth with them.

So, even though the world is full of darkness, there will be bright spots among the darkness.

There is hope!
