Bible Verse of The Day – 5-6-20

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Peace can be hard to find sometimes, especially if we look for it in the wrong places.

There are many things that bring us anything but peace.

It could come from our jobs, our finances, our health, and a lengthy list of other things that vary from one person to another.

Sometimes the situations we face may seem too big to overcome. These kinds of things can cause us to lose hope if we’re not careful to keep our eyes on God.

As we focus on the problem, instead of focusing on God and what He says, it grows bigger and bigger in our eyes. This is just our perception, though, and the enemy can use this to cause us to feel desperate.

We need to tell our minds to be quiet and we need to seek God’s wisdom in the midst of our trials. He will never steer us wrong.

His word is a light to us in dark times. And there is no situation too big for Him to help us overcome.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-25-20

John 14:27 (NKJV) 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

As we have walked through the last week or two, this verse can really speak to us.

Most of us go from day to day with no major fears to dominate our thoughts or our cares. Yes, we each have troubles of one kind or another, but most of them are less than major or life-altering.

As we have watched the recent scare due to the virus that has made its way around most of the globe, it has been a good time to reflect on a lot of things.

On a personal level, I have mourned the state of humanity, as I have watched the vast majority of people become veritable monsters, as they hoard supplies with no concern or regard for fellow human beings, leaving those who are considerate of others with empty hands as they have sought after the necessities of life, such as food, common household and medical supplies.

It is this kind of behavior that confirms the fact that the world, by and large, has rejected God, and therefore has no peace and no respect for God or any kind of earthly authority.

As we follow our Savior from day to day, it is times like these when we begin to examine ourselves and see where we draw our strength and our peace from. The way we handle ourselves in circumstances like this will show us a lot about ourselves.

Where does our trust lie? Where do we get our peace of mind from? Who gives us what we need when the world fails us?

These are some pretty deep questions. And if we’re honest with our answers, they can be pretty sobering, at the very least.

But as we ponder on these things, let’s remember that there is One we draw our strength and peace from. He will never, ever let us down.

And I am persuaded that He is able to sustain me and keep me, through all things, even when my natural eyes, my mind and the world around me might try to tell me otherwise.

2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV) 12 For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-18-15

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

As I sit at my desk this morning, on my wall is a plaque that says “PEACE.”

Things may be happening all around us in this world. Things that would like to steal our peace. But, as we stand together, praying for each other, seeking God in all we do, His peace is there for us.

Some may say “how do we walk in this peace when the world seems to be in a terrible mess? When our family member is suffering with addictions and diseases, and our finances are in turmoil? How do we have peace when our marriage is falling apart and our children are slipping away?”

It certainly won’t happen by someone saying “calm down, it’s not that bad.” That’s not going to help us because the truth is, sometimes it is that bad and very hard to face.

We can only calm down when we face the truth and allow the truth to speak to us, causing us to admit and realize that we need God to help us handle what we are facing.

When Caleb came back from spying out the land, he didn’t pretend what he had seen was not bad. He saw it for what it was. He knew there were giants in the land that they were told to possess, but he also knew God and His Mightiness!

He knew what they would be up against, but that they could overcome it with God’s help.

Turning a blind eye to what is happening around us, ignoring medical test results, or life-threatening situations is not going to make things any less troublesome. It won’t bring peace.

We have to face it, see it for what it is and then go after it.

Numbers 13:30 (NKJV) Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Acknowledging our battle and asking God for help will bring God’s peace, His understanding and anything else we need.

Peace be with us today.
