Bible Verse of The Day – 11-26-22

Romans 8:8 (NKJV) 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

Many times, living the life of a believer, we need to tell our flesh, “No”!

The flesh will often make us think everything is wrong, nothing is going right.

We have to remind it of the good things. The things that we have been blessed with! The things which we have, but for some reason we have overlooked, moving on to the one thing we may think we are missing out on.

It can drive us to the point where we feel depressed and without.

The flesh will quickly forget the things that God has blessed us with. It likes to immediately move on to the next thing.

It doesn’t like to stay in one place for too long. As soon as it gets what it wants in one area of our life, it will move on to the next desire it craves.

It wants at all times, moving from one agenda to the next to be fed constantly.

The flesh can be very needy, demanding and selfish. It wants what it wants always. And it wants it NOW!

How do we fix it? How do we slow it down? How do we keep it in its place?

We tell it, “no”, by making it submit to the word of God and what He says.

WE stop it from crying and looking at the things it doesn’t have, and we open its eyes, teaching it to be content with what it does have.

We have to be firm with our flesh and not let it get the best of us. The flesh should never drive us. We need to stay in control of it.

If we are feeling this depression set in at times, we need to shut that flesh down and let the Spirit of God take over.

We cannot please Him when we let the flesh drive us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-25-22

1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

In keeping with the theme from the devotionals on Monday and Wednesday, let’s talk today about running the race.

Paul urged the Corinthians to run the race in such a way that they may obtain (win) the prize.

He used this analogy because the Greeks were quite familiar with athletic races, which took place in their regions regularly, including the Olympic games. In this way he gave them an illustration that he knew they could easily understand and relate to.

The prize he referred to was salvation; eternity in heaven, in the presence of God.

He urged them to run the race well, so that they would not run in vain.

His goal was not so much to instill fear in them that their salvation would be lost, but to urge them to be diligent in “running the race”, that they may run it well.

In verse 25 he stated that athletes who compete in the natural world are self-disciplined and temperate (self-controlled), being careful to train to the best of their ability, even though they are competing for a prize that will fade away.

How much more, then, should we discipline ourselves to compete for a prize that is eternal in nature?

Paul reinforces the importance of this, stating, “they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown”.

In verse 26, Paul gets personal by telling them he runs the race “not with uncertainty”, and he goes on to state that he does not fight “as one who beats the air” (shadowboxing).

But he disciplines his body (verse 27) and “brings it into subjection”, so that, after preaching to others, he himself should not “become disqualified”.

This is a sobering message coming from someone with the spiritual stature of Paul, especially considering the fact that he wrote 2/3 of the New Testament and traveled the known world at that time to spread the gospel of Christ, also planting and raising up many new churches across those regions.

People of God, this is something we all need to pay attention to. This should cause each of us to want to examine ourselves and make sure we are sincere and diligent in our walk with Him, running every step with purpose, finishing the race well, so that we ourselves should not be disqualified.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-24-22

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

We have to train and teach our flesh to pray, not just for the things we or others need, but for what the Holy Spirit is leading us to pray for.

Most times as believers, we miss this very important part. We totally leave Him (the Holy Spirit) out.

We may not always have things to pray for, so we think we don’t have to pray at all. We think everything is good in our lives and around us, so why bother?

However, the Bible says to pray continually, without ceasing. That means that even when we think we don’t have anything at all to pray for, keep praying.

And how do we do this? By the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit knows what we need to pray for before we even pray. He will guide us and put on our hearts things we have no idea about.

He knows what others need. He knows what the church needs. He knows what our country needs, our kids need and this world as a whole needs.

Be listening, be watching, and be ready. Don’t ever think that just because all is going well for us there is no need to pray.

Give God our time, humble our hearts and be ready to pray at all times, without ceasing.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-23-22

1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV) 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Over the last several years, we have spent a lot of time teaching and sharing the importance of learning to be spiritual people, not just carnal Christians who rely on earthly wisdom for their understanding.

The world that we live in is tangible, and most things operate based on earthly, human wisdom. But we should not.

We should be allowing God to teach us how to live as spiritual beings, seeing, discerning and understanding things with the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

This isn’t an easy thing for some people. And even for those who learn to live this way, it takes time and purposeful effort to get there.

Our minds will fight us on this as we begin to learn to transition from human thinking to spiritual thinking.

But it’s critical that we learn this.

Why?

Because God doesn’t communicate through human intellect. He communicates through the Holy Spirit. He teaches us to see, discern and understand things through His wisdom, not by earthly wisdom.

This kind of spiritual wisdom is critical for understanding not just what God is speaking to us, but also for discerning what we see around us every day that we live and breathe here on earth.

It allows us to see and understand things that naturally-minded (carnal) people never even perceive to exist.

We need to remember that the battles we fight are not against flesh and blood, but “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

So, we continue to urge everyone to spend time digging into the word of God daily, feasting on it, learning of Him, getting understanding in the things of God and nurturing your spirit with the truth of the Spirit, that we would be the mighty warriors that God has called us to be.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-22-22

John 17:1 (NKJV) 1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You

Jesus purposed to glorify His Father!

That was His mission the whole time He was on earth. And this should be the mission of all God’s children, His bride!

Jesus’ example should be the heart of the church.

It was in His sacrificial death on that cross that He was glorified!

What are we sacrificing for Him today?

Have we given up our old self and taken on the renewing of our minds, that our new heart and changing lifestyle will point to Him and give Him all the glory?

People will watch us. That is how they will know and discern; through our actions. They will listen to us and our language. They will see if our actions speak louder than our words.

Children of God, we need to be “example setters”. In all that we do, we need to make sure we are glorifying Him!

What is the Holy Spirit asking us to work on today? What do we need to sacrifice for Him?

The best example we can set that will show people we mean business is to work and make changes in our own hearts.

It is a sacrifice to let go of what we once knew and take on a whole new way of thinking, talking, and reacting. When our minds are changed in the way of righteousness, this is the acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Jesus took on the cross, sacrificed everything for His Father, for you and for me. That was His example of pure love for us, and glorification of His Father. He offered up everything.

What will we do?

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-21-22

Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

“Work out your own salvation” is a phrase that carries a lot of weight.

It’s not a phrase we hear a lot about, but it should be.

Why?

Because it summarizes salvation in a way that lends solidity to salvation as a process, not just a single event. Let me explain.

Many people think of salvation only as a decision; a walk down the aisle at a church or other type of venue where the gospel is preached.

And while this is how salvation begins for many people, it is not intended to be the end of it.

This “step” is only the beginning; the time and place where we begin our lifelong walk as a child of God.

From that moment forward, we are responsible for walking it out; “working out our own salvation”, as Paul taught the Philippians.

This is the part where the rubber meets the road, and we are required to make choices every day that demonstrate who we are as a new creation in Christ.

Will making a bad choice disqualify us for “the prize”, as Paul referred to in 1 Corinthians 9:24?

No, but each choice we make should show us where our heart is in our relationship with God, the Creator and the Giver of life and breath. And it should help us to learn to grow and allow God to shape and mold us into who He desires us to be.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that some people don’t necessarily “walk down an aisle” to become a Christian.

Some just reach a point where they see their lost condition and reach out to God at a time and in a way that’s not seen by others. But the change in them is visible in their everyday lives, for others to see, as they grow and mature in God’s ways.

So, it’s important that each of us keeps putting one foot in front of the other, continually seeking God and learning of Him, that we may grow and mature as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-19-22

John 16:13 (NKJV) 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

Conviction comes to us when the Holy Spirit is allowed to have free rule and reign in our lives.

If we shove Him down and continuously ignore His promptings, after a while it gets easier and easier to ignore Him completely. It gets harder to hear Him, and then chaos creeps into our lives.

People sense and feel God’s conviction at different levels because we are all in a different place spiritually.

Where we are in our walk with God will often determine how strong the conviction and promptings will be.

It’s critical that we grow as believers. Our spiritual discernment needs to be sharp in order to make life-changing choices.

If we are close to God, making a sincere effort to spend time with Him, keeping our ears open, our Helper will guide us through our daily walk and we will become spiritually mature.

It’s the only way to stay close to God, by the leading of the Holy Spirit! He will lead us in all truth and keep us straight on that path.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-18-22

1 John 2:3 (NKJV) 3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.

The word of God is such an incredible resource for each of us.

It instructs us, guides us and teaches us everything we need to know to walk faithfully with our God.

Sometimes it is soft and subtle. Sometimes it is bold and direct.

The scripture above is rather direct in its inference, proclaiming that if we know God, we will keep His commandments.

This is something that we need to pay close attention to, not in a condemning way, but in a way that causes each of us to check ourselves and take inventory of where we are in our walk with God.

Many may read this and think immediately of the Ten Commandments, and its list of what to do and not to do.

While it is true that every human being should adhere to the Ten Commandments, the verse above is taking it one step further, referring to more than just adherence to a list.

Instead, it is urging us to follow God’s word as closely as possible, so our lives will be modeled after Christ and the example He set while He was here on earth.

This isn’t to be done out of ritual or tradition, or just because we think it’s the right thing to do.

It’s done out of loyalty and reverence for our God, that we would demonstrate our love and commitment to Him in every aspect of our lives.

Our obedience to God proves that we have a true, living relationship with Him.

This isn’t for show or status among fellow believers. It’s about who we are when nobody is watching us, which says more about our integrity as a follower of Christ and our faith in God than anything we do before the eyes of man.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-17-22

Psalm 6:2 (NKJV) 2 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

The world tries to make us feel more powerful than we really are. It tries to give us a false sense of security.

The Bible reassures and teaches that when we give our heart to Christ, we need to learn to depend on Him! And we need to know that It’s OK for us to depend on Him frequently.

We need Him and all He has to offer us as we walk out our daily lives in this world.

If we try to be on our own, we will end up battered and bruised, with many unhealed wounds. This will leave us with deep scars. It will be a life of constant sorrow and loss.

A lot of times we will hear people say, “where is God when we need Him?”.

It’s only in a hard situation that they say this. If nothing difficult was happening, they would still be trying to get through life on their own.

But for some reason, they wait until they need a miracle to ask for help.

That’s not how we believers should live.

It’s important that we see the need to depend completely on God at all times, for we are weak in and of ourselves all the time. But through Him we are strong!

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

If we are suffering today in a situation that we cannot handle on our own, we must cry out for help.

Get serious with God and let Him get us on the other side of our problem. He will increase our strength and knowledge, giving us what we need to make it and not give up.

Psalm 105:24 (NKJV) 24 He increased His people greatly, And made them stronger than their enemies.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-16-22

Psalm 31:7 (NKJV) 7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities,

Most of us never fully comprehend the effects of God’s mercy over our lives.

Without His mercy, we would all be in serious trouble. Some of us may very well no longer be alive had it not been for His mercy over our lives. I’m sure this is the case in my own life, as I look back at some of the stupid things I did early on in my years here on earth.

Just as important, though, His mercy impacts our lives every single day, as we face various troubles and trials (adversities).

Some of these trials can hit us pretty hard, leaving us reeling and wondering what just happened.

In fact, some of these trials can cause us to lose our way in our walk with God if we’re not careful to stay focused and close to Him.

The pressures of life will wear us down if we let them. So, it’s important that we allow the mercy of God to act as a shield to guard us from the onslaught of the enemy, preventing us from faltering in our faith.

It’s up to us to allow Him to protect us.

While that may sound crazy to some, we need to understand that we sometimes make choices that put us in harm’s way and tie the hands of God in His efforts to help and protect us.

So, let us move carefully, discern sharply and make our choices wisely.

And may we let God’s mercy continue to protect our soul in adversities.
