Bible Verse of The Day – 11-15-22

Isaiah 12:2-3 (NKJV) “Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord God is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.” Therefore, you will joyously draw water From the springs of salvation.

Our spirit will let us know when we are missing Him. It will thirst for Him!

Sometimes we can get so busy in doing our work for the Lord that we will find ourselves just wanting to stop and rest in His presence.

But the question is, will we?

When we moved to NC back in December, it took a lot of our time and energy.

Thinking and preparing for the big move caused us to be very busy, 24/7. When night time rolled around and we hit that bed, we went out like lights! There was not one ounce of anything left in us.

After running like that for several weeks, I began to feel like something was wrong, even though everything was getting done. Every “I” was dotted and every “T” was crossed.

Everything was going just as planned and we knew God was in it all.

Then, I read the verse below. And it spoke to me for days after I read it.

John 19:28 (NKJV) 28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”

Jesus was done with His work here. It was finished; completed. All that He had to do, He did. He accomplished all that He had set out to do!

When He said, “I thirst!”, I believe His spirit was thirsting, longing for His Father. He was ready to go HOME.

I realized exactly what was happening; my spirit thirsted. It wanted quality time with Him. It wanted down time with Him. It wanted to rest in Him and lay there in His presence and soak up the renewing and refreshing fullness that He gives when we seek after Him; when we draw near to Him.

I needed my time with my God, My Lord, my song. I needed to draw water from the springs of salvation. I needed to be quiet, steadfast, listening, and loving on Him.

Oh, how we thirst for Him at times. We can’t allow ourselves to run dry. Go to the springs of salvation today and get quenched. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-14-22

Psalm 37:4-5 (NKJV) 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

Here’s a simple prayer for today.

Father,

We come before You today with humble hearts.

We lift You up above all things in the heavens and on the earth, for You are worthy of all praise and all worship.

We thank You, Lord God, for who You are. We thank You for your provision. We thank You for your strength, your protection and your steadfastness.

We thank You, Lord, that You never change. You are the same yesterday, today and forever.

We thank You for your sovereignty and your holiness.

We ask You to give us the strength to endure the storms that we face, and the discernment to hear your voice in the midst of those storms, that we might make wise choices and decisions, and follow the path that You set before us.

Let us not be swayed by the strength of these storms or by the pressures we face from peers, whether they be believers or non-believers. Let us only follow You, adhering to sound doctrine.

Help us to overcome any fears that we have when facing challenges.

Show us where we have fallen short and disappointed You. We repent for our sins and shortcomings. And we thank You for the forgiveness You offer by way of your mercy and grace.

Most of all, Lord, let us work to draw closer and closer to You. We know that when we do that, so many other things will fall into place.

For closer to you is where we truly want to be. So, please help us to do what it takes to make that happen in our lives.

We give You praise, honor and glory for all that You do, and we worship You for who You are.

We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-12-22

Psalm 37:25 (NKJV) 25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.

Life can sometimes be very hard.

It can throw things at us that we never expected and have no idea how to overcome.

But in all that we face in our lives, God is faithful. His faithfulness far outweighs the storms that hit us.

This doesn’t mean that we won’t go through times that feel like they might kill us. That feeling isn’t unusual during rough seasons. In fact, it happens to almost everyone. Tough seasons hit us all from time to time.

Most of us reading this can probably nod our heads in agreement.

And we can also likely nod our heads in agreement when it comes to God’s faithfulness and His ability to exceed the power of the storms that hit us.

When the storms come, and the waters and waves have receded afterward, God is there in the aftermath to help us recover.

No, it may not ever go back to the way it was before the storm. We have to learn to accept that.

“Normal” isn’t always what we perceive it to be. It’s just what we’re used to. And sometimes we need to allow God to redefine our normal.

In the end, though, God provides in the way He sees fit. We may not always like it, but He provides and that’s all that really matters.

And in that, He will never forsake us or leave us begging for bread.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-11-22

Psalm 27:13-14 (NKJV) 13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.

This verse has recently become more and more meaningful to me.

Why?

Because as we have all faced increasing amounts of evil in our everyday lives, it has magnified the goodness of God in everything that I see.

That may seem counterintuitive, so let me explain.

In the natural, seeing such an explosion of evil at play would normally cause me to become really irritated at the huge amount of injustice we’re seeing.

And it does, in the natural realm.

But as God has taught me and helped me to mature spiritually, the massive presence of evil has caused His goodness to be magnified, giving me a stronger appreciation for who He is.

No, that doesn’t remove the evil presence, and it doesn’t undo what the evil is doing.

But it causes me to change my perspective and stop focusing on the evil, focusing instead on Him and His goodness.

And with that comes a greater joy and a stronger peace that only He can give.

We encourage you to let God do the same for you, giving you peace amid the turmoil that surrounds us, even as the fires of evil rage.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-10-22

Proverbs 17:28 (NKJV) 28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.

Being able to hold our peace takes discipline. And the Holy Spirit will enable us to do this if we give Him rule over us and our lips.

Sometimes our lips want to flap. We’ve all been there.

This is especially true when our bucket is full and we’ve heard and seen enough. It’s like we’re saying, “hold me back, it’s rising up, I have no control, and it’s not going to be good”.

But yes, we do have complete control and WE are the only ones who can control it!

Jesus Christ is our example; the King of kings, dealing with what He went through.

People mocked Him, spit on Him and beat Him. And He just kept His cool. He spoke when it meant the most and said what needed to be said at the right times. Wow!

It takes a knowing and understanding that we don’t always have to defend ourselves; That we just need to wait for the perfect opportunity to be heard and the right words to use.

It will be very productive and have a good turnout. We need to rest in that and be OK with it. In due season all will be heard.

Proverbs 15:23 (NKJV) 23 A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-9-22

1 Peter 1:1 (NKJV) 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia…

As Peter began his first epistle, he greeted a variety of believers in different geographical regions who had been “dispersed”.

While some believers of that time were scattered due to persecution, that was not the case for these.

It’s interesting, though, that Peter chose to use the word, “pilgrims”, when addressing all of them.

This is significant because it indicates and confirms the temporary nature of our presence here on earth.

Pilgrims can also be defined as strangers, sojourners or temporary residents of a land.

So it is with us, as followers of Christ. We are not here permanently, but temporarily, to live for a season and then move on to eternity.

Our home is not here. It is a heavenly home, in the presence of our Creator and the One who redeemed us.

It’s very easy for us to sometimes forget this and begin to put down roots that are deeper than necessary here, becoming entangled in the affairs of this world.

This can cause separation between us and God without us even realizing it because it’s not necessarily intentional on our part. It just kind of happens a little at a time.

The word says in James 4:4 that friendship with the world is enmity (hostility, animosity) toward God.

And sometimes it creeps in so subtly that we don’t see it until it’s been there for a long time.

This is why it’s so important that we stay sharp, constantly discerning everything; even those things that seem harmless, innocent and insignificant, because a little bit of yeast leavens the whole lump (Galatians 5:9).

Let us be reminded that we are merely pilgrims here, passing through on our way to our eternal home, and that the things of this world are not ours to hold.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-8-22

Psalm 107:8 (NKJV) 8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!

Today was the first day we started to feel better after being very sick with a virus.

Boy, it sure does remind us how fragile we are when we get hit with something this powerful. It makes you really stop and think about how blessed we are to have a Heavenly Father who cares for us.

Thank God He is with us and helps us to get back on our feet again no matter what we face.

Earlier today I took a ride to get some fresh air. We had been indoors for quite a while.

Nothing is more enjoyable to me than the fresh ocean breeze and the warmth of the sunshine, all of which we can take advantage of if we are careful not to get too busy with our everyday routine and schedules.

Today I sat by the beautiful intracoastal waterway that’s just down the road from our home. I marveled at the power in the seas; how there is so much life going on underneath the water that we can’t see most of the time.

And then there’s all the life on top of the water; sail boats and motor boats floating by, as well as kayaking, paddle boarding, and jet skis.

It just amazes me to know we all have so much beauty at our fingertips to enjoy, even if we live in different areas of the world.

But, are we taking advantage of them? Are we enjoying the blessings of the Lord that are right in front of us, in our home towns?

I hope so. I pray that in the middle of whatever is taking up all our time we would find a nice balance and be able to enjoy these simple little things in life that bring so much joy.

Plan some time out. Make it happen for you and your family. Enjoy the goodness of the Lord and all the beauty He has blessed us with.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-7-22

Hebrews 2:1 (NKJV) 1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.

Some scriptures are much easier to fully comprehend when we understand the point of view or the cultural context from which they were written.

This verse is one of those.

In and of itself, this scripture doesn’t seem to say much. But let’s look at it in a bit more depth to see what we can glean from it. I promise it’ll be worth the effort!

Anytime a verse starts with the word, “therefore”, we know it is referring to something that was said previously.

In this case, the writer is referring to Chapter 1, which spoke of the supremacy of Christ.

We need to keep in mind that the book of Hebrews was written to early Christians, primarily Jews who had converted to Christianity.

Those early Jewish Christians believed that Jesus would return quickly. So, when He didn’t, their faith began to falter.

Thus, the admonition to more earnestly heed the things they had heard (the gospel of Christ), lest they drift away (from their faith).

One of the things that caught my attention in this is the writer’s concern that these believers would “drift away”. The illustration being drawn here is that of a ship drifting past a place of safe anchorage.

When these believers realized that Jesus wasn’t returning anytime soon, they began to wander back toward their Jewish traditions and rituals.

There was a very genuine concern on the writer’s part (verses 2&3) as he expressed fear that those who abandoned their faith would face retribution/punishment for doing so.

This should cause every one of us to also take very seriously our commitment to Christ, paying attention to the warnings issued by Peter (2 Peter 1:10) to “be even more diligent to make your call and election sure”.

Our eternal destiny lies in our own hands. Let us be sure to handle it in a way that’s pleasing to our Lord and that ensures our salvation.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-5-22

Proverbs 31:26 (NKJV) 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.

She opens her mouth with wisdom. Oh, how I pray God make me like this. May my mouth bring wisdom and on my tongue the law of kindness.

What a way to minister, with wisdom and kindness as our guide!

When people sense kindness they relax. They let down their guard, and most times they will open up and be themselves.

That’s our goal as a child of God, to be able to approach people and have them feel comfortable enough to confide in us. To trust us. To know that we are people of our word, and that we care.

Kindness and wisdom will help us to point them to Christ. And from there they too will find the LOVE that changes their hearts for the good, just like it changed ours.

Ezekiel 36:26 (NKJV) 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
