Bible Verse of The Day – 11-4-22

Matthew 7:24 (NKJV) 24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:

So much of what Jesus taught was simple and straight to the point.

Yes, He also taught some things that were so deep that even His disciples didn’t understand them. But when He spoke, He spoke with absolute authority that assured people that He was who He said He was.

The verse above is one of those that’s direct and to the point!

Despite its simplicity, it speaks volumes that we can all learn from.

Take note of what Jesus said first; “whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them”.

Hearing the things Jesus says isn’t enough. He wants us to do them!

And what did He say about those who actually do them? “I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock”.

So, doing what Jesus says makes us wise! And it gives us a solid foundation to build our lives on.

Then, in verse 25, Jesus said this:

Matthew 7:25 (NKJV) 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

You see, rain, floods and winds represent the storms of life. And they are sure to come for each of us. Nobody is exempt.

It doesn’t matter if you are a layperson, a prophet, a pastor, a teacher, a worship leader or anything else with a title. The storms will come for all of us. And most of us will experience many different seasons in our lives where storms of different kinds will pound upon us.

But if we do what Jesus says to do, and not just hear it, we are wise and grounded, anchored on the Rock, giving us a defense that the storms will never be able to overcome or bring down.

And that’s something the world can never offer us.

So, what do we do? We hold fast to Jesus, our Rock and our Redeemer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-3-22

Isaiah 55:8 (NKJV) 8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

My thoughts are not your thoughts…

We can’t expect to have the same way of thinking as God. He is beyond our comprehension! He has to teach us through the leading of the Holy Spirit how to walk out this life as His child.

God is mighty! He is an Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent God.

He has unlimited power, able to do anything! He is described as Omnipotent and benevolent, meaning His desire is to do good all the time!

He is Omniscient, He knows it all and sees it all. He knows everything about us. He knows our thought before we speak it out as words.

He is omnipresent, present everywhere at the same time, His power being all around us.

His thoughts are not our thoughts and our way is not His way, but we can learn so much about Him when we seek after Him with everything in us, when we read His word and we follow His steps.

We learn, we grow and we become more like Him. We will get to know Him and do things according to His will more than ours.

Don’t be afraid to step out in the things that He is calling us into today. He is with us and will provide the way, the means and the knowhow.

We just need courage to say no to the usual way of doing things and be more open to learn His thoughts and His way. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-2-22

Hebrews 11:38 (NLT) 38 They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.

The more time I spend in God’s word, and the more I learn of God, the more conclusively I can say this; we’ve got it all wrong.

What do I mean by that?

I mean that we spend way too much of our lives here on earth trying to have better lives here on earth. And in doing so, we fail to recognize that our lives are eternal, and that our time is better spent storing up treasures in heaven.

We need to recognize that God’s vision for us is eternal, not temporal. His best life for us is not in the here and now. It is for eternity.

It is in His presence where we will spend eternity, not here on a world made of destructible, natural materials.

Knowing this, wouldn’t it make sense to spend more time and effort working out our salvation with fear and trembling, instead of gathering earthly treasures that moths and rust can destroy?

Wouldn’t it make sense to spend our time seeking out the One who tells us that we will find Him if we seek Him with our whole hearts, instead of seeking the approval of man and the fleeting satisfaction of people on social media that we don’t even know?

In the scripture at the opening of this devotional, the author of Hebrews describes the prophets as being “too good for this world”.

Prior to saying that, he went through a discourse where he listed their various feats of faith, then also listing the brutal ways that many of them had died.

Their lives were not glamorous. They lived for God and paid the price for it. And they did so because of the faith that they had in God’s ability to keep His promise.

So, why should we expect any less for our own lives? Why should we not live our lives in a way that epitomizes unshakable faith in this same God, being willing to shrug off persecution and ridicule for not conforming to the ways of the world?

And why should we spend more time seeking creature comforts than we spend seeking the Maker of those comforts?

Some serious things to ponder on today.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-1-22

James 1:2-4 (NKJV) 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Some people today reading this have taken a big hit. Some have lost their homes, some their jobs and others their family member or loved one.

You are probably feeling lost right now and wondering if it is even worth living any longer. What is there to look forward to?

The fear and loneliness are setting in and you are not sure what to do, say, or where to go from here. How do I even pick up the pieces and move on?

These kinds of hits call for God’s intervention. Prayer is needed, and time away from everything. And sometimes even time away from everyone, so that we can gain some understanding, comfort and guidance as to the changes that we face.

Don’t be ashamed if you don’t know what to do or how to handle such a hit. God knows, and He will guide us and carry us through it if we don’t blame Him for it. He will help us come out on the other side.

With pure joy, through faith and perseverance, we will not be lacking anything! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-31-22

Exodus 3:11 (NKJV) 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

“Who am I?”.

Those three words were spoken by Moses, the greatest prophet of the Old Testament, as he was faced with carrying out the task that God had given him.

God had chosen him, but Moses wasn’t so sure about God’s choice.

We hear those same three words again, coming from the mouth of David, the man and the king whom God called a man after His own heart.

1 Chronicles 17:16 (NKJV) 16 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?

And then we hear them once more, coming from the mouth of Solomon, the greatest king who ever reigned over Israel.

2 Chronicles 2:6 (NKJV) 6 But who is able to build Him a temple, since heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him? Who am I then, that I should build Him a temple, except to burn sacrifice before Him?

These words are a stark contrast to the teachings of the world, where we are told that we must understand our self-worth, and that self-esteem is critical to proper childhood development.

As believers, it’s important that we understand that our worth is found only in God, the One who created and redeemed us.

It’s when we truly understand this that we will begin to give God the honor and glory that He deserves in every aspect of our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-29-22

Deuteronomy 10:21 (NKJV) 21 He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.

We praise You Lord, for You truly are our God! You are holy and full of righteousness, and we trust You for Who You are.

We come into Your presence today with a grateful heart for these awesome things our eyes have seen; all the beauty that You have placed before us.

When we look up, we see You! When we look around, we see You. When we look into the eyes of other believers, we see You.

You have made all things beautiful and You touch our hearts each day with simple, but yet profound love.

You continue to stand with us and help us no matter how many times we have failed or disappointed You.

We are sorry and we want to do better as You fill us with Your Holy Spirit and give us the wisdom, the discipline and strength to do what needs to be done.

We are weak without You Father, but with You we can do the impossible!!

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV) 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

We Love You today, Father, with all our being. You alone are our praise! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-28-22

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

As I have recently been studying people of great faith in the Bible, I have noticed a common thread that runs among them; they never asked God why.

God would tell them what to do, and they would obey.

Abraham was the first person where I noticed this.

God had told him on more than one occasion to do something that was out of the ordinary; beyond human comprehension.

And these things that God told him to do made no sense to the human mind. Take a look!

  • Leave your homeland and go somewhere that I will show you.
  • You will become the father of a great nation even though you have no children, and you are very old.
  • Trust me to give you a son even though you’re old and your wife is beyond child-bearing age.
  • Take your son to the top of the mountain and offer him as a sacrifice.

And these are only a few examples from Abraham’s life. There are many others who had the same kinds of things happen to them.

One of the things that stood out to me is that Abraham never asked God why.

In human terms, he had the right to do so. Our flesh would think that this would not only be normal, but obligatory.

We need to remember, though, that faith operates outside of human terms and outside the boundaries of human intellect.

So, as we learn to trust God more, we also tend to question Him less. It just comes with the territory of walking in faith and knowing who our God is.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-27-22

Isaiah 45:22 (NKJV) 22 “Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

When we are lonely, look to Him and He will fill that emptiness.

When famine has struck, look to Him and He will provide for our every need.

When crisis comes, look to Him. He will bring understanding and wisdom to our situation so that we make the right decision.

When things are great, look to Him and give Him thanks. For it is through Him we are walking in His blessings!

He will save us from all things that we face, for He is God. And there is no other.

Praise Him today, for we have Someone to look to and be saved!

Isaiah 44:6 (NKJV) 6 “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-26-22

Hebrews 11:8 (NKJV) 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Faith is the catalyst for all that we do as followers of Christ.

We obey God and do things He has asked us to do, many times without knowing how to do it, or even why He wants us to do it.

Some might call this blind faith. But it’s really not blind at all. It’s a deep trust that we develop as we follow Him and grow closer to Him, learning more about who He is and what He wants for our lives.

This kind of faith is what lights a fire in us to want to obey Him and walk out things that bring fear to the natural mind.

That same faith is what quells those fears and gives us the courage and strength to go places that we’ve never seen, both in the natural and in the spiritual realm, and do things we’ve never done.

Faith such as this is what allowed Abraham to leave his home and venture to a land he had never seen before.

This kind of faith doesn’t just happen. It comes over time as we grow and mature in God. It comes one little step at a time as we learn to trust Him.

Make no mistake. This kind of faith isn’t built on a desire to do great personal feats, prophesy boldly or work incredible miracles.

It is built on a strong desire to love God, obey His word and follow the path He has set before us. It is not selfish or self-centered. It wants only to please Him who created us and put the breath of life in us.

And this faith isn’t a pursuit of faith itself. Faith without a sincere, burning love for God isn’t faith at all, but just a selfish pursuit to be somebody that God hasn’t called us to be.

Trust God. Love Him more than anything else. Put Him first in everything. And our faith in Him will grow like a mighty flame.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-22

Philippians 2:4 (NKJV) 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

We need to look out for ourselves for sure. But it doesn’t stop there. The church needs to consider the wellbeing of others too.

We, as believers in Christ individually, make up the church. So, on a personal level we need to make this adjustment in our daily lives and routines.

If we know a brother and sister in Christ who is in need, we must reach out and help them as much as we can.

The Holy Spirit will guide us as to how we can assist them. He will give us wisdom in letting us know what will work best for both of us.

We cannot continue to live selfishly, or with a conceited attitude, as a believer in Christ. This is not the right behavior to have. Instead, we need to consider others more important than ourselves.

It is something that will come as we draw near to God and grow as a believer. We will learn to live unselfishly.

Our hearts will be more willing to give than to receive. It will become more natural to see a need and want to help.

Acts 20:35 (NKJV) 35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
