Bible Verse of The Day

Genesis 41:57 (NKJV) So all countries came to Joseph in Egypt to buy grain, because the famine was severe in all lands.

Famine. It’s a word that brings fear to the hearts of men and women. It’s a word that conjures up images of many different things in our minds, and none of them are good.

But even in times of famine, God moves and teaches us so much.

We need to understand that a famine is only temporary. They don’t last forever. They might seem like they last forever, but they are just a temporary setback.

The worst thing we can do when a time of famine hits us is to try to find an easy way out. Most times, what appears to be the easy way will result in more problems further down the road.

The key to going through a famine and coming out victoriously is to stay close to God throughout the entire time.

We should be listening to God and following His leading before the famine ever hits. If we are heeding His directions on a daily basis, we will be sowing into His kingdom and using our resources very wisely during the times of plenty so He can bless us. This will allow us to “build up our storehouses” so that when famine arrives, we will have what we need to make it through.

Now, in reality, most of us are very bad about “saving for a rainy day”, and when famine arrives, our resources can become depleted very quickly. It is then that we see what we are really made of and where our trust really lies.

When this situation comes, which it will for every single one of us, we need to trust God with every fiber of our being and cling to Him, listening for His voice. We need to stay open to His leading and be willing to obey when He speaks to us.

God will always bring us through these tough times if we let Him. The important thing is that we don’t put God in a box and expect Him to help us in a way that we have preconceived. God can and will move and work in the way that’s best for us based on His wisdom, not ours.

So prepare for the famine during times of feast. And when the famine does hit, stay close to Him and trust Him. Victory will come if we don’t give up!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-7-14

Titus 2:11-12 (NKJV) 11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age…

Have you ever wondered how to please God, or how God would like us to represent Him in this world?

The two verses above put it all together in a neat, tidy little package.

This small tidbit of wisdom from God’s word can be a real challenge for all of us at different times, no matter how righteous we might think we are. But we can do it by sticking close to God and paying attention to what the Holy Spirit tells us to do or not to do.

The easiest way to do this is to move slowly and cautiously in everything, being careful to obey God’s leading.

If we do this, it will be much harder for the enemy to fool us or lure us into his traps.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-6-14

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

On our own, we might be able to accomplish some things. We might be able to use our brain power to reach some goals. This isn’t an insult to Christ. It’s a testament to the human brain, which God created and blessed us with.

But on our own we are limited. We are limited to the finite capabilities of that same human mind. We are limited to our own understanding of things. And when we compare that to the wisdom and understanding of God, we are very limited!

But with Christ, the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit and the anointing of God, we can do anything that God directs us to do.

Notice I didn’t say anything that we set our minds to? That’s because our minds are limited, but God isn’t. With God leading us, through Christ, we can do anything.

We can accomplish things in our lives that we would never imagine possible. We can even accomplish things that we never even thought we would be doing!

Once God plants a seed in us to perform a specific task or do a certain job for Him, as long as we follow His plan, we can accomplish it and fulfill His desires for our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-5-14

(Psalm 110:1 NKJV)  The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

God will make our enemy our footstool. We don’t have to chase our enemy down nor think of ways to destroy him. God will take care of our enemy.

Who is our enemy? Is it the person at work that is trying to steal our position, making us look bad to our employer? Is it our spouse, not caring for us or giving us the attention we need? Is it our children taking the wrong path in life? Is it our family and friends gossiping and sharing things that aren’t true or even our neighbors causing problems and making life difficult for us?

Let us not forget who our enemy is: (1 Peter 5:8 NKJV)  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

The devil is our enemy, and he will use people’s weakness to get to us and try to devour us.

Don’t look at the person that he may be using, and take it personally. Look beyond them, and see what the root of it is. Our enemy is not that person you see, but the devil working through them.

God will make our enemy our footstool!! That should cause us to run to God when we see things stirring up, because it is His battle and He will turn it around!

In Joshua 10:24-25 Joshua had all the men of Israel come out and put their foot on the necks of the kings. These Amorite kings were their enemy. This was to show what the Lord will do to all their enemies that came against them.

Are we ready to win the battle today? Sit, remain close to Him and let Him protect us. His way is righteous and brings victory!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-3-14

(Matthew 11:28 NKJV)  “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Sometimes we just need to stop! Stop worrying, stop working so hard, stop trying to make things happen that we have no control over, just stop and rest.

We need to rest, not in our parents, not in our best friend, not in our spouse, and not in our pastor. We need to rest in God.

How do we find rest in God? We tell Him what it is that has us all in an uproar, thank Him for helping us through it and praise HIM… for we know He’s got it!!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-2-14

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV) 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

We recently had a reader write to us and ask us some questions about a situation she has in her life.

We won’t give details as to what her exact situation is, but she had written regarding a verse and teaching we had sent out about husbands loving their wives. She ultimately asked us to define love and asked us for scriptures to give her a better, clearer understanding of how love should be acted out.

We’d like to share with you the answer that we gave her, to hopefully help everyone else who might need to read and learn about these same things. So below is part of our answer to her questions. We gave her the scripture reference above and then included our feedback and counsel. This might be a little lengthy, but we want to share the entire thing so that nothing gets left out and it leaves no question unanswered.

“Love implies action, even if it isn’t used as a verb. If we love someone, it is something that we feel, as well as something that we show the person we love. With love, there comes commitment. This can be a commitment to some kind of action or a commitment to a life together, etc.

Some people are way better than others at showing love and acting it out. A lot of this has to do with our emotional and spiritual condition. People who struggle with a lot of different emotional baggage are not usually good at showing love to others. The same could be said for people who’s spiritual life is a mess. If they’re not right with God, and they are full of negativity, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, etc., they will usually not be good at showing love to people.

On the contrary, they are usually better at sowing anger, bitterness, discontentment and even hatred. Sometimes it might seem to ooze from them, as they try to sort out their miserable condition and come to terms with who they are as a person.

The hardest part is for those around them to keep loving them, even when all that person seems to be able to do is hurt everyone else.

As for the definition of love? Different people will define it differently, but here’s they way we should see it, being followers of Christ.

Love is caring for someone so deeply that we put them before ourselves. Love is making sacrifices for those that you love, even if it means doing without something so that the other person can have it. Love is showing a person how much you care, whether through a hug, a smile, a gentle touch or a kind, encouraging word. Love is all of these and more. Love is not based on just how we feel at any given moment. Love is something we learn how to do, over our entire lifetime. As we grow and mature, we should learn how to love more deeply and without having to think about it.

Now, with all of that said, love should be a two-way street, not just one-way. When one person loves and gives their all and the other person fails to live up to their end of the bargain, it hurts and it can cause anger or resentment. And if the person on the hurting end isn’t careful, they can become bitter and hard, causing them to step way outside of where God wants them to be. And before they know it, they are full of anger. Anger can blind us and cause us not to be able to see things clearly and it can cause us to miss out on things that God might be trying to show us or teach us in our everyday lives.

Although there are other scriptures that talk and teach about love, this one is pretty much the summation of all the others.”

So if there is someone in your life that you love, love them like you mean it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-1-14

(Luke 17:6 NKJV)  So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

Faith as a mustard seed.

Mustard seed: the small round seeds of various mustard plants. The seeds are usually about 1 or 2 mm in diameter. That’s very small!

If we have faith as a mustard seed… At first it is small faith, and that’s OK. It has to start somewhere. But we don’t want it to stay small. In order to get it to grow we need to water it with the word of God and take steps of faith as He leads us.

Draw close to God. When we draw close to Him our hearts will connect with Him and we will know what His will is for us.

We can believe for His will to be done in our lives, trusting and crying out to Him, and it shall be done, as we have faith as a mustard seed.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-30-14

(Psalm 145:16 NKJV)  You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing.

It truly doesn’t matter what this world has to offer; Television, Smartphones, Tablet Computers, drugs, wild living, fancy cars, big homes, lots of money, etc. There will always be that empty feeling inside, no matter how much of this we have, if we don’t have God. These things are never going to satisfy us completely. We will always want more.

But what will satisfy us completely and bring great joy and a wonderful life is seeking God each day, following Him, and walking in His love.

God is faithful. He will not give up on us. But, instead, He will take us by the hand daily… feeding us, clothing us, and walking with us. He will teach us the things that matter in this life!!

(Psalm 145:17 NKJV)  The LORD is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-29-14

(Psalm 16:8-9 NKJV)  I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. {9} Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope.

It’s a good idea to set the Lord before us and follow Him. Setting the Lord before us shows Him that we trust in Him and His way for us each day.

I remember I was in a church service one night, and while as I was sitting there I had a vision. In that vision, the minister that was speaking at this church was way out in front of the Lord. I thought to myself “what is that about?”.

After listening to the minster speak a bit, I soon realized what God was showing me. This minister was just as God showed me. They were doing their own thing. They were running with their own agenda, but claiming to be moving in the name of the Lord.

This minister may not have even been aware of this, and this happens a lot because it can be easy to get caught up in doing things for God instead of WITH God.

Let me explain; we do not want to be doing God’s work without Him leading the way for us. We should never be out in front of Him.

We should set the Lord before us always.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-28-14

Exodus 3:14 (NKJV) And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”

We want you to know today that we serve The Great I Am, not “the great I was”!

God is powerful! He is more than enough for us. He is our source and all that we need.

But even better than that, He never changes! We serve the very same God who parted the Red Sea, rained manna down from heaven, created everything we see around us and so, so much more!

All of the power and magnificence that He had in the days of Moses and Abraham is still available to us today!

Jesus Christ came and walked the earth as Immanuel, God with us, and spoke these very words:

John 8:58 (NKJV) Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

And God’s word promises us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

So you see, we don’t serve a God who has abandoned us or left us weak and powerless. He has given us power from on high and authority in the name of Jesus, to cast out demons, heal the sick and raise the dead.

We know that this sounds far-fetched to some and it might sound cliché to others, but it’s the absolute truth and the fact that too many churches and too many believers have left this truth behind has caused the body of Christ to become weak and impotent.

Church, it’s time to rise up and embrace the truth that God has placed before us. And it’s time to live as though God is alive!

So, today, embrace God for who He is; a God that’s alive and well, and the same yesterday, today and forever. And get an understanding of who you are in Christ.

You are a powerful ray of light in this dark world.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-26-14

Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV) Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…

Husbands, Love Your Wives.

This is so simple, yet so profound.

Love Your Wife. It is a command from God’s word. It is something that we have to learn how to do if we are to do it right.

And how do we learn it? We learn by example. And who is our example? Jesus Himself.

Jesus loved His bride so much that He gave His life for her. He loved His bride so much, He laid His life down as a sacrifice for her.

This means that anything less than giving His life would have been easy for Him to do. Any other kind of sacrifice would have been a simple thing for Him to do, with no tough decision required.

So where do we, as husbands, stand when it comes to this kind of unselfish love? Do we love our wives the way Christ loved His bride?

Do we pass the test with flying colors, or do we maybe just squeak by? Or do we miss it by a longshot?

No matter how well or how poor a job we do when it comes to loving our wife, we can always do better. We will never be perfect, but we need to give our wife a 100% effort, nothing less.

So, husbands, ask yourself today if you’re loving your wife the way Christ loved His bride.

Husbands, love your wives.
