Bible Verse of The Day – 12-16-13

Colossians 3:3 (NKJV) For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

If you are a follower of Christ, you have died.

Your former life has passed away and you are now hidden with Christ, in God.

When we reach the point in our life where we understand that we are lost, full of sin, and in need of God’s forgiveness and salvation, we are then ready to die (spiritually), to let God take our old self and bury it, and raise us up in His newness.

As we do this, we are now hidden with Christ. Our former life is no longer a part of who we are. It is a part of who we were.

The enemy can no longer accuse us of those past sins. They are gone; washed away. They are willingly forgotten by God and cast into His sea of forgetfulness, never to be seen again.

Stop struggling with those sins that were a part of your life before Christ (B.C.). Stop wrestling with guilt and condemnation over those things that were part of the old you. You are not that person any longer.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

For you have died. And your life is now hidden with Christ, in God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-14-13

Philippians 3:14 (NKJV) I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

We each have a goal. A single goal for our lives.

We may have lots of things that we need to accomplish while we’re here on earth, but in the end, we still have a singular goal.

Our goal, as followers of Christ, is to reach for the prize of the upward call of God, in Jesus.

So even though we have many earthly goals, our primary goal should be the upward call of God in our lives.

What is the upward call of God? It is that drawing of His spirit that calls us closer and closer to God. It is the pulling on our heart, by the Spirit of God, that causes us to long for Him more and more.

This is the upward call of God. This should be our ultimate goal.

That when we reach the end and we stand before Him, He will look at us and say “Well done my good and faithful servant. Well done”.

Be blessed in all you do and be strong in His power and might.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-13-13

(Luke 6:31 NKJV)  “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

When we deal with people on a daily basis this is a good verse to remember and keep fresh in our mind at all times.

Some people can be really easy to get along with and life is beautiful! They help make a day go by nicely and there are no challenges.

But, sometimes we meet up with the people that like to make us miserable. You know, putting us down and being very hurtful, getting in our face, picking on us, telling everyone else how bad they think we are.

Whether they mistreat us or not, we cannot fix them or change them. Don’t try to discipline them or correct them. That will make things worse.

Jesus tells us how to handle it; treat others the way we want to be treated in any given situation.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-12-13

John 13:35 (NKJV) By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Jesus spoke these words as a way of telling us what is most important.

It is not how we judge others. It is not by how many scriptures we memorize or can quote to people.

It is not by how well we can debate with non-believers. It is not by how many different Bibles we own, or how many times we have read them from cover to cover.

It is not by how articulately we speak or pray. And it is not by how big our church is, how many baptisms we do each year or by how nice the worship team sounds.

No. He didn’t mention a single one of those things.

He said that others will know we are His disciples by our love for one another. And let me assure you that He didn’t just mean our love for fellow believers.

Jesus wanted to make sure we know that our love for people, whether they are believers or not, is what will show them that we are His disciples.

Love breaks down barriers. Love conquers hatred. Love breaks the chains of sin. And love turns away wrath and anger.

Love shows people who God really is, without ever quoting a single scripture or requiring a person to step into a church building.

Love conquers all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-11-13

(Psalm 150:2 NKJV)  Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!

Take some time today to ponder on our wonderful God!

He is a Mighty God! We live in a world that was spoken into existence by His Words. He spoke it all into existence.

He breathed His breath into us.

He sent His only begotten Son to us and through His Son we have everlasting life.

Praise Him today for He is Good!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-10-13

Philippians 2:14-15 (NKJV) 14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world…

As God’s children, we are to shine like lights in the world. We are to reflect the light and the love of God like mirrors, projecting them onto those around us.

It’s not easy. The world has become a perverse place, overrun with so much evil that it almost seems that evil has overtaken good.

But God has given us the key to being those lights in a dark world, telling us to do all things without complaining (grumbling) or disputing (arguing).

By this simple act of holding our tongue and not complaining or arguing, we can show God’s light and His love to everyone we come into contact with.

During this very busy time of year, when so many people are under so much stress, we can touch the lives of those around us just by giving them a smile, a kind hello or a word of encouragement.

Don’t let the Christmas lights be the only things shining during this season. We should be shining even brighter!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-9-13

(Acts 4:10-12 NKJV)  “let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. {11} “This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ {12} “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

This name, this awesome name, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, is the name that brings salvation to all people and makes us whole!!

Do we need salvation today, or healing over our bodies or minds? Maybe we need to be set free from drugs, or any other addictions.

Call upon His Holy name, ask for forgiveness and turn from what we know to be wrong. And then let Him help us to make things right.

(John 8:36 NKJV)  “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Praise be to the Holy name of Jesus Christ!  Worship Him today, for He loves us. He has set us free. There is no other name that can save us, except the name of Jesus Christ!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-7-13

Ephesians 4:32 (NKJV) And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Kindness. It’s something that seems to have been lost in today’s fast-paced world of dog-eat-dog competitiveness.

Even the church, followers of Christ, have forgotten how to be kind. We have gotten caught up in the ways of the world and left one of the things that Jesus lived out here on earth behind.

Where does kindness stem from? It stems from love, mercy and compassion. If we love others, show them mercy and compassion, then we can’t help but to be kind to them.

It’s very easy to forget this when we’re under pressure from our jobs, our financial problems and a hundred other things that pull on us.

But it’s imperative that we not let this world and the wiles of the enemy push the love of God out of our lives and cause us to be unkind and unloving.

Today, we challenge you to let God’s love flow out of you and onto those around you. As we do this, we not only make people feel loved, but we also show them God and the compassion that He has for all of us.

Let us love, forgive and be kind to one another.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-6-13

Matthew 6:27 (NKJV) Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

It’s no secret. Just about every person reading this is going through some kind of trial or struggle.

It may be a financial trial, a relationship trial, a struggle with some kind of addiction or any number of other kinds of struggles and trials. It happens to every single one of us.

When these kinds of things happen in our lives, it can turn our world upside down. It can cause us to have to make decisions and choices that we never thought we would even have to consider in the past.

So when this happens, what do we do? Do we stress and spend every waking minute worrying about the “what ifs”?

We can do that. It’s pretty easy to fall into. But it doesn’t do us a single bit of good.

Jesus taught that nobody can change anything by worrying. In fact, people who spend a lot of time worrying end up with various health problems from the stress that they carry, including high blood pressure, stress headaches, ulcers, weight gain and much more.

So what should we do?

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

We need to humble ourselves and admit that there are some things that we just can’t change, and then we need to hand them over to God, trusting that He will bring the help that we need.

It’s not always easy, but the more we do this, the easier it becomes.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-5-13

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride can take on so many forms. It’s not always as obvious as the stereotypes that most of us think of. You know… the arrogant, cocky individual that nobody likes to be around because they think they’re better than everyone else.

If it was always that easy to spot in ourselves, we’d be much more likely to stop it in its tracks and do something about it.

But pride can be so subtle that we might not see it until we actually fall and start looking into why we fell.

Only then will we be open to God showing us where we were prideful. Only then will we listen to the Holy Spirit when He shows us our mistakes and our faults.

But here’s the good news. We don’t have to wait until we take a tumble to check ourselves and ask God to show us who we really are. We can ask Him today, right now, where and how we are prideful, arrogant, cocky or haughty.

And sometimes He will show us when we’re not even asking Him to. The key is that we have to listen to Him. Let me share a little story about how God spoke to me about pride a few years ago. I’ll try to keep it short!

We had been visiting with some friends and they invited us out to lunch. We accepted the invitation and enjoyed lunch and fellowship with them and several other people at a large table.

When everyone was almost done eating, I got up from the table, found the waitress and told her that we (Pastor Ellie and I) wanted to pay for everyone’s meal. I went ahead and paid the tab and walked back to the table.

A short time later, the waitress came by the table and the person who invited us to go with them asked her for the check. She then told him that it was all paid for and then pointed to me. Of course they were surprised and thankful that we had done this, but they had expected to pay for us.

A short time later, we all left and went our own way. As we drove home I very clearly heard a word pop up in my spirit. I didn’t know what the word meant, but I knew that it was God speaking to me and that He was trying to teach me something.

When we got home, I looked the word up and what I suspected was confirmed. The word referred to a specific type of pride or arrogance. God was showing me that we were being prideful by paying for everyone’s lunch. He also showed me that what we did was hurtful to the person who had invited us out.

To this day, I don’t remember what that one word was that God spoke to me. I know it was God, beyond any doubt.

So, you see, pride can take on many different forms, even disguised as generosity. So always listen when God speaks to you, because you never know when He will speak or how He will speak.

But He does speak to us!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-4-13

(Galatians 5:24-25 NKJV)  And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. {25} If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Let’s take a look at what God’s word tells us to do with the flesh; He says to crucify it, meaning put to death or destroy the power of it.

God tells us what the flesh is all about here: (Galatians 5:19-21 NKJV) Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, {20} idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, {21} envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like.

This is what we operate in if we don’t take charge of the flesh. Do we ever wonder why we keep making the same mistakes over and over? Do we wonder why we say and do the same things that got us into trouble last time, after we told ourselves we would never do it or act that way again?

We apologize; we say we are sorry, but not long after that we are in the same boat, doing it again. It’s one thing to make mistakes; we all do. No one’s perfect, but we are talking about making the SAME mistakes repeatedly.

In order to stop this, we have to take steps towards crucifying our flesh. Like anything we have to change, it maybe uncomfortable at first. But if we are sincere in wanting to do what is right, we will adjust.

What may seem to be uncomfortable or even painful at first, will soon become pleasant as we see the fruit of it. And we may find ourselves thinking, wow, why didn’t I do this earlier in life?

God can and will give us the strength to go through it. We just have to be the ones to make the decision and take the first step and say “yes this is what I want”!

Crucify the flesh and walk in the Spirit today.
