Bible Verse of The Day – 7-13-13

Revelation 12:11 (NKJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb.

Who is this “him” that they overcame? The enemy of our soul, the devil.

The devil roams the earth, seeking whom he can devour (1 Peter 5:8). Because he came to steal, to kill and to destroy (John 10:10). There is no good in him. He is darkness.

So how do we overcome our most deadly adversary? By the blood of The Lamb and by the word of our testimony!

It’s critical for us to understand that we cannot defeat the devil by natural means. No amount of intellectualism or worldly knowledge can defeat him. But we do have the weapon(s) that we need to overcome him once and for all.

It’s the blood of Jesus. By shedding His blood and giving His life on the cross, Jesus defeated death, hell and the grave once and for all.

And the word of our testimony… what does that mean? It means that we need to be speaking words of life and hope, not death and despair. Our words need to reflect the hope that we have in Jesus. As we speak words of life, we literally drive the enemy back from our presence.

Jesus taught that He came so that we could have life and have it more abundantly. He is and has supplied us with all that we need to have victory in our lives.

We don’t have to live life as a defeated warrior. Let Jesus teach you how to have victory in your life today.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-12-13

(Joshua 7:10 NKJV)  So the LORD said to Joshua: “Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face?

There are times to cry out to God and ask why, what, and how? Then there are times when we need to take action!

Joshua, needed to “get up” and take action, he needed to address the problem that he was crying out about regarding the Israelites.

Sometimes we can spend so much time crying out to God about what is wrong with the picture instead of getting up and dealing with it. Let’s face it, have we ever seen anything get done when we are lying down? Of course not.

Joshua had to get up and deal with the problem. It was good for Him to seek God about it, but it was time now to take action. It was time to stop crying and move on.

Today we need to take care of what it is that is causing the problems in our lives. As we seek God, He will show us how to deal with it.

He will do His part, but if there is something we need to do in the natural, don’t be surprised if, just as He said to Joshua, He says to us “get up” and deal with it. Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-11-13

Romans 3:10 (NKJV) As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;

So often we hear this verse quoted when someone is being led to Christ. It helps them to understand that everyone sins. Nobody is exempt.

Today, let’s look at it from another point of view… as believers and followers of Christ.

If we are a follower of Christ, we have been washed by His blood. Our sins have been forgiven the second we receive Him. This is something that the human mind can’t even begin to comprehend in its fullness. It is a work of God’s spirit… not a work of flesh.

However, sometimes we need to be reminded that we are still sinners who have been washed in His blood. We are not sinless. We have not arrived!

We should not wallow in our sins or be condemned by them, but we do need to stay humble and realize that not a single one of us is perfect or sinless. Not one of us makes it through a day without sinning.

Sometimes it can be easy to forget that “we once were lost but now are found”. And it can become easy to look down our noses at someone who is still lost and trying to find their way, mumbling under our breath about their shortcomings.

1 Corinthians 15:10 (NKJV) But by the grace of God I am what I am…

It is the grace of God that has made us who we are in Christ. It is not our own strengths, skills, talents, intelligence or physical stature. God’s grace. Period. Pretty humbling, isn’t it?

So as we go through the day today, let’s remember where we came from and Who got us to where we are now. And then let’s thank Him for it!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-10-13

(Isaiah 48:17 NKJV)  Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go.

Do we feel like we are always struggling to make ends meet?

It can seem like we come up short every month and have to dip over into our savings or next month’s pay, causing us to be short that month, etc. Well, this way of living is clearly not profiting. This is a sign that we need to see and confess to God that we need help!

God’s Words are truth to our being and when we hear them we need to apply them in order for them to work in our lives. I heard this verse loud and clear. God wants to teach us and help us to profit.

God does not want us to just make ends meet. He wants us to go beyond that, but it will take one very important step; letting Him TEACH us.

What does it mean when someone teaches us? First off we have to realize that need to be taught in whatever area it is that we come up short. We need to submit ourselves and all that we knew how to do, and sit and listen to His ways of doing things.

The problem many of us have is that God will spend time teaching us how to make things right, and then once we are out of the problem we go back to our old ways. This is what causes us to get back into the place we once got out of and the cycle keeps going on and on.

When God teaches us to get out of something… financial debt problems, bad relationships, drug problems, etc., we can’t think that we can just pick things up where we left off after we have gotten out of it, fall back into the same bad habits, and then leave Him behind.

After He gets us out, He wants to teach us how to profit and go beyond what we could ever imagine. He wants to take us to different levels. This way, when He is done with us we will never want to go back to the way we were.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-9-13

(Psalm 107:29 NKJV)  He calms the storm, So that its waves are still.

Are you in a storm today? Are you stuck in a place where you don’t want to be? Do you feel like you are in prison, and you are holding the key to get out but are afraid to make the move?

God’s Peace is amazing! When going through a trial or tribulation (a storm), remember that no matter how big of a wave it is, He will calm that thing down. How does this happen? As we follow His direction, we will feel His peace and that peace will help us to make the right moves.

Not long ago, we were in a trial. We were praying and seeking God and His answer came. It came, but we overlooked it, it was so plain and clear, but not what we were looking for.

Time went on and we tried doing everything we knew to do by our  own understanding…the storm was getting worse and worse, those big nasty waves kept beating on us, the pressure was getting heavier and we were getting weak and tired from the constant beating.

We finally sat back down and asked God, “What are we missing?”, only to hear the same thing He had told us the first time we asked.

He showed us again and we began to take the steps, like He said to do, and His peace was there instantly and things began to work out. The storm was calmed!!

Sometimes we can miss what God is saying to us to do because we feel so strong that it should be done another way. But if we miss it the first time, just get back with Him and repent and ask Him if it’s too late or can we try again to get it right?

There are times we will miss the timing for something, and it doesn’t come back around again. But there are also those times we do get another chance.

We learned that no matter what storm we go through in life, we can still have peace in it as long as we follow God, because He is the “Calmer of the STORM!”

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-8-13

(1 John 5:21 NKJV)  Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Idol – representation or symbol of an object of worship or a likeness of something.

There are a lot of things in this world we can worship or really like without even realizing that we are doing it. This verse says to keep yourselves from them.

Why? Because it is easy to fall prey to them and end up worshiping them. God wants us for Himself (Deuteronomy 4:24 NKJV)  “For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

We can not worship Him and also worship other things/people as well…it doesn’t work that way.

We have to make sure there is nothing in our hearts that we put before God; nothing that we worship.

Worship – extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object of esteem.

How can we tell we are worshipping something or someone? By how much time we devote to it or them.  A lot of times we will give it our everything, all of our time, thought, energy and our money.

Every so often it is good that we check ourselves to make sure we are not putting anything before God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-6-13

John 15:5 (NKJV) “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Without Him, we can do nothing.

As a follow-up to yesterday’s Bible Verse of The Day, we’d like to use this scripture to complete what was said about us needing to be broken before God before He can use us.

Sometimes this is misunderstood by people or it doesn’t come across in the right way, so here’s a little more for you to take in.

Jesus said that we are to abide in Him and that if we do, we will bear much fruit. He went on to say that if we don’t abide in Him, we can do nothing (for the kingdom of God).

This isn’t any kind of deep spiritual metaphor or symbolism. It’s pretty straight forward with what it says and what it means. If we abide (remain) in Him, we can be used mightily by God. If we don’t, then we can’t be used to a great degree.

In yet another scripture, God’s word tells us that we can do all things through Christ. Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

So as we abide in Him, he empowers us and strengthens us to do the works of the kingdom and bring glory to the Father.

So it’s important that we learn to humble ourselves before Him, confess our sins to Him and then ask Him to work in us to make us who He wants us to be, not who we want to be.

Enjoy your weekend and stay strong in Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-5-13

Psalm 51:17 (NKJV) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart- These, O God, You will not despise.

Did you know that God can’t use us until we are broken before Him? Sounds kind of backwards, doesn’t it?

In the world, we’re taught that we have to be positive, powerful and sure of ourselves. Self esteem takes the lead when it comes to how we’re told we are supposed to be built up, self-sufficient and prepared for any kind of leadership or victory.

In reality, though, God teaches us quite the opposite. God wants us to be broken and contrite before Him. He want us to lay ourselves down at His feet in all of our frailty and failure and let Him pick us up and put the broken pieces of our fragile selves back together.

You see, until we are broken, we can never be made whole by God’s spirit. If we are broken before God, we are humble and admitting that we need His strength. If we are unbroken, we are full of pride and ego, thinking that we don’t need anybody.

How do we become broken before Him? The verse above says that we need to have a contrite heart.

Contrite: feeling or showing sorrow and remorse for a sin or shortcoming

Once we learn to admit our sins and shortcomings, we will become broken. Then God can begin to put us back together the way He wants us to be and then He can begin to use us for His glory, shining His light through us.

It is good to be strong, but our strength needs to come from our Creator and not from within ourselves.

Let Him pick you up and put the broken pieces back together His way.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-3-13

John 1:11-13 (NKJV) 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Jesus came to present Himself to the world, as a living sacrifice, to redeem a sinful humanity from our sins.

The vast majority of His own people (the Jews and those from His hometown) rejected him. But He didn’t come just for those people.

He came for “as many as received Him”! He didn’t limit His sacrifice only to the Jews or the people who knew Him as a boy. He gave of Himself freely for anyone who would receive Him unto themselves.

To these people, He gave the right to become children of God… sons and daughters of the King… the Most High God!! That applies to you and to me!

Have you received Him? Going to church doesn’t make us children of God. Believing that God exists doesn’t make us Children of God, for even the demons believe and they tremble! Singing modern spiritual songs or old hymns doesn’t make us children of God. Although all of these things are good, not a single one of them makes us His child.

We must receive Him by believing that He died for our sins and putting our faith in Him.

So I ask you again, Have you received Him?

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-2-13

(1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 NKJV)  pray without ceasing, {18} in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Not too long ago my Nephew was in a really bad car accident. At the scene of the accident, as they were removing him from the car and putting him into the life support helicopter, he died… stopped breathing. They resuscitated him and then continued to take him to the hospital. He was 15 yrs. old and in really bad shape.

As we arrived at the hospital, we walked into the room and took one look at his body lying lifeless in the bed. He had tubes everywhere… in his mouth, arms, head and other areas.

As I stood there about ready to pass out, I said God, “why am I here? Why did I have to come to see this? Couldn’t I have just prayed at home, and believed that you would heal him, and not have to see this?”

He told me, “you need to see this. Many young teenagers are dying like this all around. It’s not always their fault but the fault of the parents, and you need to know this. Parents are not doing their job; kids have become the victim, because the parents are allowing their children to make adult decisions, when they are still children.”

It wasn’t just about my nephew anymore. It was more than that. It was about what the enemy was trying to do to young people all over the world. We need to know as believers what to pray for, how to pray and when to pray. And we always need to remember to pray.

As each day goes by, if we get caught up in our everyday routine, we can miss out on the things that will make a difference in someone’s life and sometimes it is just a prayer that separates someone between life and death.

Today, my nephew is doing Awesome! Thank you to the many of you who prayed for him at that very crucial time a year and a half ago. Today he lives, he’s in school,  he plays football (which they said he would never do again) and is doing wonderfully!

Praise be to God!! Our prayers were heard!

Let us come together and pray for the teens today all around the world and for the parents to be the parents God has called them to be.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-1-13

Hebrews 10:23 (NKJV) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Hold fast. What does this mean… to hold fast?

Yesterday we took a walk on one of the local beaches. As we walked, we could hear the waves breaking to the left side of us and see them rolling in onto the beach.

On our right side, there were sand dunes and houses. Some of these houses had very huge embankments in front of them and covering these embankments were some very, very large boulders that had been used to cover the steep bank that led from the home, down onto the beach.

The people who built the houses put these large rocks there purposely, to prevent the waves from destroying the homes if there is a storm and the waves become huge. The rocks prevent the storm from washing away the sand dunes and demolishing the home.

As the waves beat against these rocks, so do the storms of life beat upon us at times. Things come our way that we might never imagine… sickness, disease, financial disasters and so much more. It’s just a fact of life.

Just as those rocks protect the home from the raging ocean waves, our profession of faith in Jesus, our Rock, keeps us from being destroyed by the raging storms of life.

Just as those rocks take the pounding and never move, so must we hold fast to our faith. This is what faith is about… trusting and believing even when things are not cheery and sunny. It’s easy to believe when things are going smoothly and we don’t have a care in the world.

But when the storms come and the waves beat upon us, will our faith be like those rocks on the shore, never moving even in the worst of storms? Or will our faith falter at the first sign of trouble, washing away with the surge of the storm?

Hold fast to your confession of hope, for He is faithful!
