Bible Verse of The Day – 9-16-23

Genesis 2:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

The heavens and the earth and all the host of them were finished on the 6th day! On the seventh day God rested. Wow!

It’s so inspiring to know that God Almighty rested.

Maybe some of us won’t feel so guilty about taking a rest knowing that God also rested.

How important it is that we stop what we are doing and pull away from our work. Our minds and physical bodies need rest.

We may be strong, but we still need that time off, for ourselves and for our loved ones. Shut that mind off. Make sure we take a rest.

As we learn to do this, we will see our lives change, feeling more peaceful and settled.

Resting allows our bodies to heal and stay strong. Our health literally improves from proper rest.

Rest also drives stress away, allowing our minds to be at ease and not always tied up in knots from too much thinking.

Let us follow the example of God, our Creator, taking the time to rest as He did.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-15-23

John 8:32 (NKJV) 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

This well-known verse is quoted often, even by those who know little or nothing of God and His true freedom.

Even Christians will use this verse outside of what it really means.

While this is not necessarily wrong, it is always a good idea to understand what Jesus was referring to when He spoke these words.

First, there is a bit of symbolism here.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

If we know Jesus, we know “the Truth” (Him), and He sets us free from sin and bondage.

Beyond that, He is speaking of knowing truth that will change us, altering our lives and our destiny in a way that nothing natural can do.

That truth revolves around Him and what He represents; spiritual rebirth, death to sin and new life in His salvation.

Jesus spoke the words in John 8:32 to the religious leaders of His time.

They were rigid, stiff-necked people who were so steeped in tradition they failed to recognize their own Messiah.

In his teachings, He sought to help them gain understanding of their lost condition and the deception that they were slaves to.

Sadly, most were never able to see past their ritualistic traditions, opting instead to have Jesus crucified.

Despite what they chose, let us choose true freedom in Christ; freedom from the cares of this world, freedom from the power of sin in our lives, and freedom from death and the grave.

These are some of the things Jesus was referring to when He spoke of freedom.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-14-23

2 Peter 1:5 (NKJV) 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge…

What is virtue?

Virtue is described as a disposition to choose actions that succeed in showing high moral standards; doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong.

When someone takes pleasure in doing what is right, even when it is difficult or initially unpleasant, they can establish virtue as a habit.

A more succinct definition would be: moral excellence; goodness; righteousness.

Peter instructed us to add to our faith, virtue.

We need to take on the attitude of walking out high moral standards, taking great pleasure in doing what is right, and letting it play a big part in our daily walk.

Sometimes doing the right thing can cause discomfort with those around us that are not on the same page as us.

When we choose to do right, it can immediately bring conviction to those who want to do the opposite.

For us, walking in virtue will come at a cost.

We may lose friends. We may even find family members that differ with us.

They will not want us around as much simply because we choose to do right instead of doing the wrong thing.

Adding virtue to our faith will make a statement as to who we have become as children of God. Others will not recognize us because we are not the same as we once were.

They may even try to make us think that there is something wrong with us, and accuse us of thinking we are better than them.

Pay no attention to that.

Continue giving all diligence to do the right thing, and choose actions that succeed in showing high moral standards at all times, walking as God has called us to!

Add to our faith, virtue. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-14-23

Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV) 18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

In the verse above, Moses is informing Israel that it is God who gives to them the ability to get wealth.

As His children, we should humbly acknowledge that this power is a God-given ability.

Hopefully we humbly acknowledge where our wealth comes from and are grateful to God for it.

Now, if it is God that gives us this ability to gain wealth, our next question is going to make us think.

Are we lacking in this area? Have we taken the wealth that He has already given to us and spent it foolishly?

God shows us what to do with our finances to make sure we have food in our house.

We must worship Him with our first fruit by giving Him a tenth of it, sowing it into the place that feeds us spiritually.

Are we taking this very important step? If not, then that may be why we are always struggling financially.

Malachi 3:10 (NKJV) 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing.

God will pour out such blessings as we bring our tithes into the storehouse, worshipping Him and thanking Him for power or the God-given ability to get wealth.

He will also protect us and keep our fruit safe as we obey Him in this area, instead of being greedy with the finances that He provides.

Malachi 3:11 (NKJV) 11 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts…

Who is he that tries to destroy our fruit? The enemy!

Let’s cut him off at the knees today, preventing him from stealing our finances, and follow what God has taught us, by bringing all our tithes into the storehouse. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-13-23

Psalm 42:8 (NKJV) 8 The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me — A prayer to the God of my life.

This beautiful Psalm sums up God’s incredible faithfulness in just two lines.

Life can sometimes be extremely hard. We all have battles to fight and things we must face in our lives.

But we never face them alone.

God is our faithful Guide, leading us through each trial we walk through.

He sent the Holy Spirit to teach us, help us, lead us, and guide each step we take.

Whether it is daytime or nighttime, He is there.

As He led the Israelites by night with a pillar of fire, He also leads us with His spirit.

Many say that because we are His children, we should never face trials or calamity, but His word tells us that isn’t the case.

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

So, we say to you today, it is time for us to take our eyes off the thing that stands before us, appearing to block our path and hold us back.

Instead, let us fix our eyes on our Creator and Redeemer, the author and finisher of our faith, holding steadfast in the face of any adversity and holding tightly to Him.

Why?

Because He is faithful.

Lamentations 5:19 (NLT) 19 But Lord, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-12-23

Hebrews 3:8-9 (NKJV) 8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.

The Israelite’s hearts were hardened simply by going through trials in the wilderness.

It’s important for us to be aware that our hearts can harden as well, and we can find ourselves in a state of rebellion if we don’t realize it and allow God to correct us.

It’s hard to keep the faith and stay strong on our own when trials come.

We need to pray, comfort and edify one another in such times. It’s a huge relief to those who are walking through troubled times.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV) 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

Why do we need encouragement?

Because it gives us strength that we wouldn’t otherwise have. It helps us remain faithful and steadfast.

The comfort and edification from one another will help us to push through some of the most difficult seasons in our lives.

God has comforted us many times, bringing us through hardship with the same comfort He had shown us to sow into the lives of others as they walked through difficulties.

2 Corinthians 1:4 (NKJV) 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Take the time and recognize a brother or sister in need and bring some encouragement and comfort to them.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-11-23

Isaiah 51:2 (NKJV) 2 Look to Abraham your father, And to Sarah who bore you; For I called him alone, And blessed him and increased him.”

As God addressed the Israelites through the prophet Isaiah, He urged them to remember their roots, the origins of their faith.

He reminds them of Abraham, the father of their faith. God blessed Abraham for his obedience, also making him the father of many nations.

Through his seed, many nations were born.

Abraham was not perfect. He was a frail human who made some poor choices, as we all do from time to time.

Despite this, God used him and blessed him.

Why did God bless him? Because he had great faith. He trusted God in ways that no man had ever done before.

Abraham was one man. Yet he became the patriarch of the Jewish people.

He was blessed because of his faith.

How about you and me? Where do we stand in this big picture of God’s kingdom?

We are no different than Abraham. We are human, and we are frail, prone to falling from time to time.

But God can use us and bless us too!

We may not become the father of many nations, or even one nation for that matter.

But God can take the little faith we have in Him and multiply it if we let Him!

He can take us and transform us into someone we may not recognize years down the road!

Will we build nations? Will we father a whole new people? Will our lives impact hundreds of thousands of men and women?

That’s not likely. But it is possible!

We just need to trust Him and surrender ourselves to Him wholly. And then watch what He can do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-9-23

Romans 1:28 (NKJV) 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting…

It is important for us to notice what Paul is saying here; God gave them over to a debased mind.

What is a debased mind?

It is a mind that is lowered in status, esteem, quality, or character.

The synonyms for debased are vitiated, depraved, corrupted, debauched, and perverted.

Vitiate implies a destruction of purity, validity, or effectiveness by allowing entrance of a fault or defect.

Depraved implies moral deterioration by evil thoughts or influences.

Corrupt implies loss of soundness, purity, or integrity.

Debauch implies a debasing through sensual indulgence.

Pervert implies a twisting or distorting from what is natural or normal.

When God gives them over to such a thing, it is not because He doesn’t love them. It is not because He doesn’t desire them to change or repent and turn their hearts around.

He gives them over because it is their will to live in such a lifestyle.

They choose what they do over and over again and love it more than anything or anyone. And they deny God and His truth. They are filled with all unrighteousness.

Romans 1:29-31 (NKJV) 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful…

Those that are living in depravity or under a debased mind, do not want to be helped. They have given themselves completely over to their desires of wickedness.

We can spend time trying to help such people, however, even God gives them over to what they desire. He is our example in this.

It’s a hard thing to watch and accept if we know or love someone who chooses this path.

I know people right now who live such a lifestyle and love it. They have lost everything, but they still go back to doing the same things that are destroying them.

There is not a thing we can do to change them.

We can teach them, showing them how wrong it is. They wake up every day knowing that what they do can lead to destruction, yet they continue in it with everything in them.

Romans 1:32 (NKJV) 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Children of God, the best thing we can do is continue to pray for them and hope that one day they will repent and learn to hate the things they are doing.

Let us also remember to pray for one another that we will walk in the righteous lifestyle that God’s word teaches us, standing for truth and resisting the enemy and those things that are not fitting. Amen.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-8-23

1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV) 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

The verse above makes it clear that the Holy Spirit is indwelling in believers; He lives in us.

He does not follow us around, walk beside us or walk ahead of us. He dwells inside us.

Knowing this, we should also be aware of the implications this has for all of us; we are never out of His presence.

He is everywhere we go.

What does that mean for us?

Most will readily say that because He is always with us, He will protect us.

There is truth in this, but maybe not in the exact way most of us would like it to be.

Let me explain.

The Holy Spirit’s “job” is to lead us, guide us and help us. Nowhere are we told that He will control us.

On the contrary, we each have free will. We do what we choose to do. He will do everything possible to point us in the right direction, but we make the choice to obey or not.

And this is where it can get sticky for us.

If He leads and we obey, all is good. We are pleasing God.

If He leads and we choose to do something other than what He prompts us to do, we are stepping into territory where we are largely on our own. And this can get tricky since we are no longer following His lead.

From another perspective, think about what His indwelling presence means if we ignore His leading and step into something that we know is contrary to what God wants for us.

We are subjecting Him to whatever our choices lead us into.

He hears the conversations we have. He sees everything that we look at. He accompanies us everywhere we go. He hears everything that we listen to.

Do you see where this is going?

Conversations, movies, TV shows, music, social media posts; He sees and hears it all as we participate in whatever it might be we are doing.

This should cause us to choose carefully what we do, knowing that whatever we expose ourselves to we are also exposing Him to.

This is not a scare tactic. This is not to intimidate anyone.

But as we begin to understand some of these things, it brings clarity to our spirits and helps us make better decisions in everything we do, giving us accountability.

Remember the Holy Spirit, our Invisible Companion.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-7-23

Psalm 84:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, Whose heart is set on pilgrimage. 6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools.

Baca is a type of balsam plant that can survive in dry conditions.

As Christians or children of God, we may sometimes be in a place that feels dry.

Maybe we are struggling in our walk, or maybe we are waiting for answers. We need to see change, or we need something to happen that is beyond our control.

God can sometimes feel so far away and so quiet in those moments. We wait, crying out to Him for some type of sign.

As we wait, let our strength come from Him. Let Him give us the heart to push through and pass through such dry conditions.

It’s in and through His strength, that even though we are in a dry and heavy place, He will bring the rain.

Let us cry out today, “Oh rain of God come, fall on us today. We need you”.  Amen.
