Category: Strengthening Your Relationship With God

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-25-25

Philippians 1:21 (NKJV) 21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

This verse carries so much weight once we “get it”.

Many believers will not understand this verse until many years into their walk with Christ.

But length of time is irrelevant.

It is the strength of our walk that lies at the heart of understanding. A believer who grows rapidly will understand this more quickly than someone who grows at a slower pace.

And sometimes it simply requires a person to bring it to our attention for us to be pricked by the Spirit of God and prompted to consider its implications.

You see, our walk with God is not (should not) be a mundane endeavor whereby we simply go through the motions, repeating specific steps each day.

It is intended to be alive and vibrant, growing over time and drawing us nearer to Him with each passing day.

It is when we approach our relationship with Him with such fervor that we begin to understand the truth of the verse above, and we then experience personally. That is when “the lightbulb goes on” for us and we get it!

When our walk with God has matured to this point, we begin to live out this concept of “to live is Christ, and to die is gain”, as Paul penned the words.

There comes a time in our lives when we no longer hold so tightly to the things and the ways of the world, and we begin to focus more intently on the things of God and the redemption that Jesus paid so dearly to provide for us, that we may be grafted into the True Vine that gives us life.

Father, help us to long for you with every fiber of our being, that we may walk out the words of Paul and bring glory to your name.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-13-14

Psalm 73:28 (NKJV) 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all Your works.

We have people ask us frequently how they can know God’s purpose for their life, how they can hear God’s voice, how they can have sharper discernment and many other questions that are similar.

Our response is always the same; Draw near to God.

You see, we can pray and ask God for sharper discernment, a closer walk with Him, stronger faith, to hear His voice more easily, and much more. But if we fail to draw near to God and grow our relationship with Him, we’ll never, ever be able to hear Him better or have better discernment.

Achieving any of the things mentioned above requires that we have a strong relationship with our Creator. It’s just like any other relationship; we get out what we put in.

Drawing near to Him takes effort and needs to be done on purpose. It doesn’t happen accidentally or just by wishing it would happen. It’s just like anything else that’s worth achieving or obtaining. It takes work!

You can’t get sharper discernment by having someone lay hands on you and pray for you to have it. You can’t draw closer to God by calling a prayer line and asking them to pray for you. You can’t find God’s purpose for your life by taking 5 easy steps. And you can’t grow your faith simply by saying that you want your faith to grow.

Purpose in your heart that you want a closer walk with God. Make it your desire to know Him better. Push aside every distraction and focus on Him. And do you know what will happen when we do that?

We will get closer to Him. Our faith will grow. Our discernment will become sharper. We will hear His voice more easily. And with all of this, we will begin walking on the path that God has set in place for us.

We can all have a powerful walk with God. We just have to want it badly enough to go after it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-16-14

Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV) 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

To many people, Christianity is just something that’s done in passing, as a way of showing some kind of faith or belief in God, but with little or no commitment to “walking it out”. In other words, it’s not really who they are, but just something they do when it’s convenient.

This is not faith at all and, in fact, these people are likely not really even Christians at all. Now I know that may sound judgmental, but lets take a look at what God’s word says, above.

Paul, in the verses above, is instructing the Colossian believers to walk in Him, not just follow some casual kind of belief system. Further, he instructs them to be rooted in Him and established in the faith!

This is definitely more than a casual Sunday morning relationship here.

We often have people write to us, asking us questions about how to draw closer to God or how to hear God’s voice, or even how to know what God’s call or purpose is for them in their life.

And we are always careful to instruct them the same way; Press in to God, spend time in His word and learn of Him. Get to know Him. Doing this will give us a better understanding of who He is and who He wants us to be.

Once we have that understanding, everything else becomes much more clear and easy to understand.

So if you feel like your walk with God is casual, or if you’re struggling to find God’s purpose for your life, root yourself in Him, build yourself up in Him and establish yourself in the faith. If we will take the time and make the effort to do this, so many other things in our lives will eventually fall into place.
