Bible Verse of The Day – 7-26-19

2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord.

As believers, most of us have heard this verse at least once. And if we’ve been a believer for a long time, it’s safe to assume that we have probably heard it many times.

The question is this; have we followed what it tells us to do?

Have we “come out from among them” and separated ourselves from the world in a significant way?

There are many ways we can do this, without actually moving out into the forest somewhere and living in isolation. In fact, isolating ourselves isn’t what this scripture is really referring to anyway.

But have we separated ourselves in our actions, our behavior, in ways that differentiate us from the rest of the people around us? Or do we just blend in and act like whoever we happen to be around at any given moment?

In the verses leading up to this one, Paul is speaking to the Corinthian Christians and encouraging them to come away from the worldly behaviors such as lawlessness and idol worship.

That’s a good place for us to start looking at our own lives. How similar are we to the world in the things we do and the things we involve ourselves in?

It’s pretty safe to assume that we don’t literally bow down to physical idols. But are our hearts attached to or involved with “things” that we esteem more highly than we should?

Things like movies, celebrities, hobbies, etc. can all become our idols.

Our behavior can also be something to consider. The way we act, the things we say, the words we use are all ways that we can attach ourselves to or separate ourselves from the world.

No matter who we are, we can all use a little “checkup” once in a while. It’s good for us to look at what we do and let God show us where we might need to make adjustments, whether big or small.

So, don’t worry about packing up your things and moving out into the woods somewhere. But let’s ask God how to separate ourselves in ways that are pleasing to Him 🙂

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-31-15

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Most times we hear this verse being taught and talked about regarding individuals. We hear about how we are to keep ourselves from evil and not get drawn into practices that aren’t pleasing to God.

Today we need to take a look at this from a collective point of view, as a body; the body of Christ.

The church as a whole also has an obligation to honor God in everything it does. The world has so greatly influenced the church that it has started to succumb to the pressure and accept some things that are contrary to the word of God.

Many times, in an effort to please people, the church will cave in to pressure and practice or allow things that they know aren’t right. This also happens in an effort to keep people from getting their feelings hurt, or to be politically correct.

Jesus was not worried about what people thought of Him. Yes, He loved people. And yes, He forgave people for their sins. But Jesus also spoke to and addressed sin when it was before Him, without apologizing.

He was the religious people’s worst nightmare because he saw their practices for what they were and called them out for it. He would be the first person to forgive them if they had sincerely repented. But He knew their motives and had no trouble calling sin what it was; sin.

So we need to be very careful as the body of Christ, and guard our hearts, letting God guide us and help us discern the things that are pressuring us to change our convictions.

The word of God never changes. It doesn’t bend to please the current fads or trends. The definition of sin doesn’t change to please people.

And so should the church hold onto and keep its convictions, unwavering and true to our Creator.

We need to love those around us, reach out and offer Christ to those in need, but never, ever let the world convince us that anything outside of God’s standards is acceptable or right, simply because someone says it should be so.
