Bible Verse of The Day – 6-18-16

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

“God, please break me.”

How many times have we prayed that seemingly simple prayer or something like it? We know we need to change. We want to change. We want to break free of the sin or the complacency in our lives. So we tell God to do it for us. But it doesn’t happen.

Let’s talk about why it doesn’t happen.

God is not a puppeteer. We have no strings attached to us that allow Him to control or manipulate us. And He will never force us to do something.

Therefore, He will never break us or force us to stop sinning or doing those things that we know aren’t pleasing to Him. It’s up to us. Yes, that sounds a bit strange, but it really is up to us.

God hates sin and complacency. But He loves us. So, because He loves us, and He wants our affection for Him to be genuine, He allows us to choose the path for our lives.

We can choose to follow Him or reject Him. We can choose to get free from sin or stay entangled in it. We can choose to walk closely with Him or have a “casual”, weak relationship with Him and walk with Him at a distance.

It’s all up to us. We choose. So if it’s up to us, how can we make change happen in our lives if we seem and feel so powerless?

Through Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Through Christ, we can do all things. We can overcome sin in our lives. We can defeat complacency in our lives. We can make choices and decisions that bring about change in our lives, not on our own strength, but through the strength of Christ in us!

So when temptation comes our way, either to sin or to remain complacent in our walk with God, we need to take the initiative to do the thing that pleases God. Once we make the first move, God will meet us where we’re at and help us follow through.

And he will give us whatever we need to bring about the change in our lives that we are in need of.

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

This doesn’t mean it will always come easy. It may not. But as we make more right choices, and we press in to God and build our relationship with Him, it will get easier over time.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-17-16

Psalm 20:7 (NKJV) 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

The Lord God will help us through things that we would otherwise never make it through. He is Faithful to pick us up and brush us off, and step by step show us how to get on track and start over.

We can try to do it on our own. He won’t stop us or force us. We can put our trust in all kinds of different things, but there is no ONE like the Lord our God.

1 Samuel 2:2 (NKJV) 2 “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.

He is our rock!

Those other things that try to take His place will bring GREAT disappointment to us.

It is in the Lord our God that we will put our trust and walk in His victory!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-16-16

1 Corinthians 3:7 (NKJV) 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

It’s always all about God.

Many times we can make the mistake of thinking that things are about us, or about what we want or what we think should happen.

We mistakenly pray for God to change a person, based on what we perceive to be “wrong” with them. Our concern and our prayers may be well-intentioned and even partially correct in their perception.

But, ultimately, God is the only One who can draw someone to Him, the only One who can bring true change to a person’s heart and the only One who can produce fruit in someone’s life.

So when we pray for people, we need to make sure that we’re not naming their “sin” and asking God to show them how wrong they are. But, instead, we need to pray that God will touch their heart and draw them to Himself.

It’s there, close to God, where we find life-changing conviction and the power to overcome sin in our lives. Not through rhetoric, debate or harsh words.

Love overcomes all things.

Proverbs 10:12 (NKJV) 12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.

John 13:34-35 (NKJV) 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-15-16

Matthew 6:24 (NKJV) 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

What is mammon?

The Webster Dictionary explains it as material wealth or possessions, especially as having a debasing influence.

Debase means – to lower the value or reputation of (someone or something): to make (someone or something) less respected.

Does our wealth or possessions cause us to have a debasing influence on others? Do we think we are better than others because of our mammon, our wealth or our possessions? Do we look down on someone that has less than us?

Have we ever heard this phrase when someone tries to bless a person and buy them something, “your money is no good here, put it away”?

Many people laugh when someone says it, but really it is a slap in the face to the one that sincerely wants to do something nice for them and it is NOT received.

Pay attention to this kind of behavior, because this is the beginning of serving our mammon. In other words what we are thinking is that NOTHING is as good as our mammon.

Don’t ever let things, money or success cause us to look down at others or refuse the help or blessings of others, etc. in our lives. Receive them humbly and thankfully, no matter how much we have.

Galatians 3:28 (NKJV) 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

We are all one in Christ, no matter what we possess in this world.  We are all equal in God’s eyes.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-14-16

Proverbs 17:22 (NKJV) 22 A merry heart does good, like medicine…

Laughter is good. It can help us get through trials and tough situations. It can help us keep things in their proper perspective.

Many of us don’t laugh enough. We tend to get caught up in everyday life and the things that we need to tend to, the things we need to get done, or the problem that we’re trying to work through at the moment.

Some of us have personalities that cause us to be serious much of the time. I know, because I’m one of them.

But God has been teaching me for the last several years how important it is to have fun and set aside our cares and concerns sometimes and enjoy the life we have. We need to laugh!

And sometimes we need a good old belly laugh; one that causes our face to hurt from laughing so hard and so long. It’s good for us!

Yes, we may be facing serious things. We may be working through a trial or hard time. But nothing that we’re facing is so dire that we can’t heed God’s word and laugh!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-13-16

Mark 1:35 (NKJV) 35 Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

Building a relationship with our heavenly Father will also help us with any other relationships that come our way. Time is going to be the key that will unlock the door.

If we can put some time aside and dedicate it to that relationship, the growth of our relationship will begin. It doesn’t have to be the same amount of time or at the same time every day, but just some time.

Some days will seem harder than others to put the time aside, depending on the things that are pulling on us.

But what we need to remember is that if we lack time with God, we hurt ourselves.

Our time with Him, building our relationship, will help us to have a better attitude toward the things going on around us.

It will help us to be more patient, kind and compassionate, when our emotions are wanting to freak out.

It will help us to be wiser, alert and ready for things that we may face throughout our day.

Yes, it will take time. But during the time we spend with Him, we will learn His voice and follow His way each day.

John 10:27 (NKJV) 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-11-16

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

When we are walking in the things God has for us, there is peace. It doesn’t matter what is going on around us, peace will be the proof that we are where we need to be.

Peace is what helps us push through those things even when we are feeling exhausted from the journey.

Peace is what will carry us when we have no idea of WHAT to do other than to keep on keeping on.

Peace will help us smile, when we want to cry or be angry because of the pain we feel, or the scars we carry.

Peace is what will cause us to reach out to help others even when we need help ourselves.

May God’s peace be with us no matter what we are dealing with today.

We love you and our prayers are with you each day. God is faithful!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-10-16

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

This is one of my all-time favorite verses in the entire Bible.

One way. Not two ways, three ways or more. One way!

Jesus said He is the only way to the Father. And I believe Him. His words are true and trustworthy.

It doesn’t take Jesus and Buddha. It doesn’t take Jesus and Confucius. It doesn’t take Jesus and Muhammad. It doesn’t take Jesus and the Pope, or the president, the prime minister or any other seemingly important person. It doesn’t take Jesus plus anyone or anything else to reach the Father.

Jesus is the Way. He is the Truth and He is the Life. He is all we need. Period. End of story.

So as we’re inundated with so many “alternative” ways offered by the world, we need to stand firm and hold fast to the truth that Jesus is the way.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-9-16

Romans 14:11-13 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” 12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.

We are all going to bow before God one day and give account for ourselves. Knowing this, we all want to do the right things and make the right decisions.

But nonetheless, we have all wrestled, stumbled and failed from time to time.

It brings me great comfort to know that God does not expect us to be perfect, but He does expect us to go to Him for help with our weaknesses. Because it is in weakness that His strength is made perfect.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV) 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

We are a work in progress each and every day, and so are those around us. Yes, even those we see doing things we don’t agree with. Instead of judging, let us go to God with our own shortfalls and let His strength be made perfect in all our weakness. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-8-16

Romans 9:20 (NKJV) 20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”

Sometimes we all need a little wake-up call… a dose of reality.

As we go through life, we can tend to get caught up in our daily stuff and sometimes we can get a bit haughty or develop an attitude when things don’t go the way we think they should go.

Sometimes we can even get mad at God because we think we know better than Him. We might not come right out and say that, but our words and our attitude will give it away.

It happens to almost everybody once in a while. Maybe we go through a tough time or we want certain changes to take place in our lives, so we tell God how we want it to be. And if it doesn’t go exactly the way we want it to, we can get huffy or angry about it.

Many times we get vocal and express how we feel, and we talk about how we think things should happen, as if we’re wiser than God.

But the verse above tells us clearly what God’s response is when people question His wisdom or His ways.

No, it’s not wrong to ask God why certain things happen. And it’s not wrong to want to understand some of life’s oddities. But we should never cross the line and question God’s ways or His decisions in our lives. And we shouldn’t be upset if we don’t get the answer we’re looking for when we do question Him.

It all comes down to trusting God no matter what comes our way or happens in our lives. It’s not always easy, but it’s what God asks of us.
