Bible Verse of The Day – 8-9-19

Psalm 56:3 (NKJV) 3 Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

We all face fear from time to time.

Sometimes it’s a choice we might have made. Other times it’s a situation that we find ourselves in. There are very many things that we can cause us to be afraid.

Many believers feel that it’s bad to be afraid… that God is disappointed with us if we express fear. But this isn’t true.

Fear is something that is natural. God created us to fear certain things. It’s part of how we protect ourselves from things that are dangerous or harmful for us.

There is something, though, that God wants us to do when we face fear. He wants us to go to Him.

He doesn’t want us to run and hide. He doesn’t want us to make rash decisions. He doesn’t want us to let the fear control us.

As we go to Him, it’s OK to let Him know that we’re afraid. But once we do that, He wants us to let Him show us how to handle it.

God is faithful to guide us and give us His wisdom, if we will allow Him to. That’s the key to beating those things that make us fearful; receiving and following His counsel.

In Matthew 8:25-26, the disciples had become fearful for their lives as they were crossing the water in a boat. Jesus was with them and had fallen asleep.

As they saw their situation, they became fearful and woke Jesus to express their fear. Jesus scolded them for their lack of faith, and then He proceeded to rebuke the wind and the waves, bringing instant calm.

The important thing to take note of here is not the fact that Jesus scolded the disciples, but why He scolded them.

He didn’t scold them because they were afraid. He scolded them because they let their fear get the best of them and cause them to act irrationally, instead of simply asking Him for help in knowing what to do about it.

So that’s the lesson for us here; going to God to ask for His help and counsel, instead of running away, defeated by the fear.

When we’re afraid, let’s trust in Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-8-19

John 14:14 (NKJV) 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

If we truly want God’s answers, we have to pray.

I say this with all sincerity. I have seen God move through prayer so much in my life and in such a powerful way that it makes me want to stay praying all day long. Why? Because God’s desire to help people is so strong, I want to lift everyone up in prayer because I know that God moves.

Prayer is essential for us in order to stay close to God. It allows us to be able to follow God and to know what He has for us in the time and hour in which we live.

It might be a correction in our step, or a healing in our body.

It may be specific directions to escape or overcome our problem, or deliverance from our addictions.

Asking people to pray for us is OK. The Bible tells us to pray for each other. But, we must remember that just because we have someone praying for us and with us, we still need to be praying for ourselves and others as well. We absolutely need to spend time with God.

Some people won’t even attempt to pray. Why? Because they think they don’t know how to do it correctly.

The most important things we need to know are these; 1. He is God, Jehovah Jireh, El Shaddai, Majesty, Creator, Heavenly Father. And, 2. the only way to Him is through His Son Jesus Christ. That’s it.

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Some may think asking God for what they need is inappropriate. They may feel guilty because they see others going through difficulties and they don’t want to bother God or take away from the needs of others.

This is not of God. This thinking is wrong. And it can be prideful, even though on the surface it appears to be humble.

You see, the devil doesn’t want us to go to God and ask for things, because he knows that if we go in faith, with the right heart, and through His Son, we will see God move.

The devil will use deceitful thoughts, or pride, to stop us from asking, to stop us from getting our answers. He wants us to suffer and not get ahead in this life.

He doesn’t want us to know that we can go to God, pray, ask and receive. No. That would change us from leaning on our own understanding to resting and trusting in God.

That may cause us to walk in humility, leaving behind pride, arrogance and trying to figure everything out based on our own intellect.

It would rock this world if our relationship and trust were ever so strong in Him.

People of God, we are missing out on God’s faithfulness, guidance and victory if we are not praying and going to Him for guidance on a daily basis. If we keep running to and depending on others to pray for us, we are missing out.

God desires our fellowship through His Son.

This doesn’t mean that it’s bad to ask for prayer from others. It simply means that if we do ask others, we need to continue to pray as well. We can’t just leave it all up to someone else to find our answer.

1 Corinthians 1:9 (NKJV) 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-7-19

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

We teach a lot about God’s peace. It’s a very major factor in our own lives. It has transformed us and the way we react to things. It has also incredibly changed the way we see things.

It has so reshaped our lives that we find it critically important to share it with you as often as possible, in ways that will help everyone get a better understanding of it.

We have learned that where God is, there is peace. Where there is no peace, God is not there. It’s very simple yet profound at the same time.

What is it about this peace that makes it so special? It’s not of this world. It’s truly a spiritual phenomenon that can’t be 100% explained by words. But let’s give it a try and see if we can make it easier to understand and apply to our lives.

God’s peace doesn’t come because we follow a certain pattern or go through a predefined set of steps.

It doesn’t happen when we reach a specific milestone in our Christian walk.

And it doesn’t mysteriously appear just because we read or study a specific set of scriptures.

Here’s the easiest way we can explain it. God’s peace comes when we reach a point in our walk where we trust Him, no matter what we see happening around us.

It doesn’t mean that we become indifferent and simply brush everything off, especially when it comes to the things we see others going through.

On the contrary, as we grow in God, our compassion and love for others will grow stronger.

And our desire to do the right thing will become more pronounced in our own lives. We will become acutely aware of right and wrong, making every effort to do what is good and right in God’s eyes.

But when the storms of life come crashing upon us and those we love, we will understand and recognize that, ultimately, we are in God’s hands, and He is stronger than any trial we face.

Yes, we may still experience fear now and then, especially during those most difficult trials. But the peace of God will ultimately drive that fear away if we let it.

The peace of God is undeniably bigger than you and me, and it is something that we could never fully explain, especially to unbelievers. But as children of God, it is something that we all need to learn to walk in, letting it sweep away our doubts, our fears and our unbelief.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-6-19

Ephesians 4:31 (NKJV) 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

Have we been through somethings that has made us hurt and angry?

One recent weekend I set off for the beach. It was going to be a hot, sunny and perfect beach day.

I left early, to beat the crowd. On my way there I hit traffic everywhere. Never did I see it as busy as it was this day. I kept telling myself I will get there and I will have a spot even if I have to sit in the water!

Normally I would just say forget it, and go another day. However, I could not turn back. Something in me was determined to get to the beach.

I knew I would eventually get there and enjoy the smell of the ocean salt and the feel of the sand between my toes, and it would be worth it all.

It is probably the one thing Pastor Curt and I don’t enjoy together. He says, “go and have fun!!”.

I finally made it there, and as I sat in my chair I sighed with relief.

Within a short time, I heard a woman speaking to me from behind. We got to talking, and she asked me to pull up my chair. She too was alone.

We began to share things about ourselves and I heard God ask me to ask her something. So I did. And as she explained to me about a particular situation, the tears came down her face. I was in awe at what God was doing. He was touching her heart right in front of me.

We spent hours talking and swimming like we had known each other forever. We shared our stories and we got to know each other. It was simply beautiful.

After hearing what this person had gone through, the thing I noticed was that there was not a stitch of anger or bitterness in her. She was strong, kindhearted and happy.

This showed me that we are the ones who choose how we react to the things that life throws at us, because this woman had every right to be one of those angry, hard, bitter people. But she was the opposite. It spoke volumes to me for the person she chose to be.

It was eventually time for me to leave and she walked with me as we made our way to our cars.

On our way I heard God say, “You need to pray with her”. So, I waited till we got closer to the vehicle and I said to her, “you shared quite a few things with me today. Would you mind if we prayed before I leave?” She got excited and said, “would you please?”.

So, right there in the parking lot, by her vehicle, God began moving through prayer. His presence was there, and when we were finished, God had touched her heart so deeply, that once again tears of joy flowed down her cheeks.

He was her friend through me that day. He knew what she needed and He provided it. I told her I may never see her again here at this beach, but today was divine and I will treasure it.

We hugged, told each other we love each other and said goodbye.

There is no room for anger and no room for bitterness, no matter what we have been through in this life.

God is there. He will bring healing whatever way He sees fit.

He will bring to us what we need to get past it, even if it’s a friend for a day.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-5-19

Luke 22:41-42 (NKJV) 41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Jesus set the ultimate example here for us to follow.

No, not just in the fact He laid down His life.

Even though that is the most critical part of the big picture, the fact that He submitted to the Father and set His own will aside is what led Him to follow through and give His life for us.

Had he chosen to follow His own will, as He stated Himself when He asked if it would be possible to take “this cup” from Him, there would have been no crucifixion.

Regardless of what His flesh felt, Jesus did the Father’s will and died in your place and my place on that cross.

That is the example we all need to look at and follow each day, to the best of our ability, led by the Holy Spirit.

Our flesh is weak, but strong at the same time.

It is weak when it comes to surrendering to God. But it is strong when it comes to wanting its own way. It is a paradoxical tug of war constantly going on within us.

But, if we can grasp the fact that Jesus was 100% human then we can also begin to see and understand that we, too, need to learn how to submit our will to God, deferring to Him when we make our choices.

Sometimes this can be much easier than we might think. Other times it can be a very difficult thing, as it was for Jesus in the verses above, as our flesh rises up and does battle with our spirit.

As we grow in our relationship with God, though, it becomes much easier. And when those extremely difficult crossroads come along, we will be much more inclined to choose God’s will over ours.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-3-19

Isaiah 40:29 (NKJV) 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.

When we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior, we not only gain eternal life, we also gain strength.

People don’t realize how weak we are without Christ in us.

We may think we are strong because of the way we handle ourselves from day to day. But wait until one thing happens that we weren’t expecting and then see how much we need Him.

It’s not that we want anything to happen to anyone, but the Bible specifically tells us that in this world there will come trials and tribulations. But it does not say we will overcome them on our own.

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

It specifically says that He has overcome them, and if we are His children, we too will overcome them as we walk in His wisdom and strength.

We are weak without Him. But the good news is that He gives power to the weak! He increases our strength!

Have we ever been going through a tough time, yet we can still smile and be an encouragement to someone?

People may not understand how we could have joy in the midst of a storm or help someone else when we ourselves are going through some things. But that is the strength that He gives us in our weakest moments.

He is good! Eternal life is the most precious gift anyone could ever be given. But that is not all that He gives us. He cares enough to help us here on earth before we reach heaven, and He increases our strength as well.

When we receive Christ as our Savior, He sets us free from sin, gives us eternal life with Him, and gives us strength when we are weak. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-2-19

Galatians 5:13 (NKJV) 13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

We have been called to liberty.

Jesus came and walked among us to show us and teach us how to walk in freedom. And then He died, willingly, to make that freedom available to us.

His death was not in vain. He had a specific purpose; Freedom from sin and death for those who would choose to follow Him and apply His sacrifice to their own lives on a personal level.

We can choose to follow Him and walk in the freedom that He has offered us. Or we can follow Him and tie ourselves down with so many things.

Sometimes the things that tie us down are things that we have pulled into our relationship with Him. How does this happen?

We put our faith in Christ, which sets us free, and then we begin to entangle ourselves in things that we think are part of Christianity, only to become less and less free as time goes by. Before we know it, we are a slave to religion, whereas God has called us to become slaves to righteousness.

Romans 6:18 (NKJV) 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

Being a slave to righteousness is not slavery at all! But, rather, true freedom in Christ. Because as we embrace Christ and grow in our relationship with Him, we shake off the chains of sin, leaving us free to experience a full, abundant life in Christ.

And this is why God doesn’t want us entangling ourselves in chains again through religious bondage or other types of things that ensnare us.

John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-1-19

Hebrews 11:8 (NKJV) 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

It’s very important to know and understand that Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out. Being called to go out is different than just taking a “step of faith” because we want to or we feel like we need to.

If we are called and we take the steps we know God is asking us to take by faith, all will work out according to His plan. There is no doubt. We say this with all confidence in Him.

But, if we are not called and we take a “step of faith” because we want something in return, that is not the same. And we can fall miserably on our faces and lose everything.

Be sure to obey God when we are called to take a step of faith.  We can’t just do what we want and call it “a step of faith”.

So many Christians today are in trouble because they stepped out in this so-called faith. They have nothing and no one to back them up.

It’s a problem within the body of Christ, and unbelievers are seeing it and running far from it.

How do we get back on track with God?

By acknowledging we were wrong and the steps that we took were nothing more than our own desires, wants, and ambitions.

Admit it and repent for it, asking Him to have mercy.

Psalm 51:1 (NKJV) 1 Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions.

We need to ask God to help us get back on track with Him. It’s not hard. And if we are sincere, God will meet us on that road and show us the way home. Amen.

Psalm 34:17 (NKJV) 17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.
