Bible Verse of The Day – 6-19-20

Hebrews 6:17-18 (NKJV) 17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

At first glance, these verses might seem very complicated, and tough to decipher or make sense of.

But they are very important for us to understand, so let’s break them down and see what we can get out of them.

The very first word, “thus”, indicates a condition, or something that it is referring to.

That something is a promise that God had made to Abraham, which we discussed a couple days ago, when we talked about Abraham waiting patiently for that promise to be fulfilled.

Now, when man makes a promise, he will swear to it as a way of guaranteeing that it will be done. But because man can offer no guarantee based solely on his word, he will usually swear by someone greater than himself, namely God.

When God made a promise to Abraham, He had nobody greater than Himself to swear by, so He bound Himself to an oath, guaranteeing to fulfill the promise He had made.

In other words, He swore by Himself that He would do what He said He would do. This assured the heirs of that promise that God would not change His mind.

Verse 18 mentions “two immutable things”. What were those two things? God’s promise, and His oath. He made a promise. And then He swore an oath to keep the promise.

You can’t get any better than that!

These two things, His promise and His oath, are unchangeable. Why? Because it is impossible for God to lie.

So, what is the result of all of this? What does it mean for us, as children of God?

It means that we can have great confidence in the fact that promises God has made will be carried out and completed!

There is no greater guarantor that God Himself. If He says something, He means it. And if He promises something, He will do it.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-18-20

Psalm 147:3 (NKJV) 3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

The brokenhearted need healing.

We can’t try to plan our lives out if we are in a state of brokenness. Take time for God to help bring healing.

Don’t try to be so busy that we don’t realize the brokenness of our hearts.

Do we know that God cares and wants to put us back together again? He sees the tears and the heartache.

He wants us to take the necessary steps to get healed and made new. We cannot try to do this by just keeping busy. It will not go away, but will come back time and time again.

Each step to healing a broken heart is crucial. It’s very much needed to take these steps carefully, and to not try to just get through it.

God doesn’t want us to wallow in sorrow and sadness. There are steps that will help us get through it and He will comfort us and give us the strength we need to take those steps.

Each individual will be different. It’s not a cookie cutter fix.

Our broken heart will be healed and mended as we rest and follow Him, trusting Him every step of the way. Amen.

Our prayers are with you today.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-17-20

Hebrews 6:15 (NKJV) 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Abraham was a great example for us to follow when it comes to waiting on God.

We all hate waiting… for anything.

Oh, we may say we can wait patiently. But when the rubber meets the road, and we are forced to wait for something, we can all get a little spoiled acting.

Sometimes we can get miserable. Other times we might get a bit testy with those around us, snapping at them without cause if they bother us even the least little bit.

Other times, we can throw some very good pity parties, feeling very sorry for ourselves as we are forced to endure a period of waiting before we get what was promised to us.

But, in the end, none of those things actually help us get what we want any more quickly. And sometimes, what we’re waiting for might take even longer because of the way we act. Ouch!

But look at what the verse above says. It says that after Abraham had patiently endured, he obtained the promise!

It wasn’t halfway through. It was after!

And he didn’t endure like a spoiled child, while throwing a temper tantrum. He waited patiently.

Not in spite of that, but because of that, he obtained the promise!

What a lesson we can all learn from this very short verse.

It’s probably safe to say that each and every one of us can learn something from this that we can apply to our lives as believers.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-16-20

1 Chronicles 29:11 (NKJV) 11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head over all.

All we can say is Amen to this!

Thank God it all belongs to Him. No one can ever claim it as theirs. No King, no Queen, no President, no political party, and no governor.

Everything belongs to Him and He is exalted as HEAD over all. That is something to shout about. Praise be to our Lord!

People may think they’ve got it all in the bag, so to speak. But that’s not truth.

God has it all in His hands, and whatever we think is ours belongs to Him. For all that is in Heaven and all that is in the Earth belongs to Him.

Our questions today is, “what are we all doing with what He has placed in our hands?”. Are we being good stewards and faithful with all that He has let us oversee?

1 Corinthians 4:2 (NKJV) 2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

It will take discipline, and accountability to Him, to walk in such integrity. But it is very fulfilling when we find that sweet spot, that place where we are doing what God wants us to be doing, being faithful with the things He has given to us to watch over for a time.

What an honor it is to live for Him.

Psalm 100:2 (NKJV) 2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-15-20

1 John 5:21 (NKJV) 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

I’ve read this verse many, many times. We have even written devotionals with this verse. It’s a very short verse that says a lot.

This past week, however, it took on new depth for me as I heard it while listening to the Bible as I was preparing for my day.

I usually like to read the New King James translation. It is a solid translation that is free of the old poetic “thees, thous, doest and goest” type of words, making it very easy to read and understand.

I do occasionally use other translations while studying, however, for the sake of comparison and for revealing other possible meanings in the scriptures.

This was the case with the verse above.

As I listened, it was reading from the NLT (New Living Translation), since audio wasn’t available for the NKJV translation. And here is what it said:

1 John 5:21 (NLT) 21 Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.

If the NKJV translation didn’t make it clear enough, this translation certainly does!

What I really like about this is that it defines what an idol is in the lives of a believer; anything that might take God’s place in our hearts.

Straight forward, plain and simple, super easy to understand.

Many times, a simple change of words that brings more clarity can increase our understanding, leading to us actually implementing it in our lives.

It can mean the difference between us growing or not growing. This isn’t so much because we didn’t understand the other translation, but more because the alternate translation makes it so clear than we can’t deny it.

Thus, we are more easily convicted.

So, just as John encouraged believers of that time to keep themselves from idols, we also want to encourage you to do the same; keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-13-20

2 Corinthians 10:3 (NKJV) 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.

According to God’s word, a believer does not war in and of the flesh. We learn how to battle differently; we don’t let the flesh get the best of us any longer.

How many know what I’m talking about here? We begin to do things by letting His Holy Spirit guide and direct our steps.

The old way is done with and there is a new way of doing things. We have to submit to God and let the change come.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

As a child of God, we are starting over. We are starting from scratch. We have a brand-new, clean slate. And we are just beginning to see what God can do when we confess our sins and walk in His faithfulness to forgive us!

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We are clean, my friend. Very clean.

That doesn’t mean sin no longer exists in us or never tempts us. It means that we have been cleansed from prior things that we have confessed, and we will need the Holy Spirit to help keep it out of our daily walk.

This is something that we learn to do on a daily basis. And as we follow God’s leading, it gets easier.

Will we ever be perfect at it? No.

But if we put God first in everything, heed the leading of the Holy Spirit, and let Him mold us and shape us, He will create a new person in us that we will barely recognize over time.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-12-20

James 4:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Have you ever seen a shooting star?

I spend a lot of time on the water during the summer months, and I have gotten to see some incredibly beautiful shooting stars.

No matter how incredibly bright some of them are, they are literally only visible for a split second or two; here and gone almost instantly.

This is a great representation of our lives here on earth. We are here and gone before we even realize it.

Yes, 70 years is a lot longer than the life of a meteor. There’s no doubt about it.

But if we look at our lives compared to the grand scheme of things, those 70 or so years can seem pretty insignificant. And as such, we are no more than a shooting star flashing across the sky for a split second, and then we are gone.

Over my lifetime, there have been a few shooting stars that I have seen that have stood out. They are still very vivid in my memory.

Why? Because they were brighter or more brilliant than others. They left an indelible impression in my mind.

Our goal in our life as a believer should be to leave a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of those around us, shining God’s light to them in the things we do and the things we say, just like those shooting stars that we remember for a lifetime.

Maybe it will be words of encouragement or words of hope. Maybe it will be words of correction, spoken in love. Maybe it will simply be a listening ear that we give to someone who needs to talk.

Maybe it will be time that we took to help someone in need. Maybe it will be something that we gave to someone who was lacking.

Whatever it might be, let it be something that we do or say with the love of God in our hearts. Let our motives be pure. And let God be at the forefront of it all, giving Him the glory for it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-11-20

James 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Are you broken today?

Have you been through something and you are grasping for anything to make your heart beat again? Something that will take the pain away?  Anything that will make you smile again, or at least give you a sense a peace?

These recent days have been tough for a lot of people. It hasn’t been easy with the abrupt changes around the world. Not knowing when we might ever feel right again is frightening, tiring and stressful.

Life has changed deeply for some. For others, maybe not as badly, but we are feeling different than normal, waiting for something to bring some kind of relief from the hardship we are battling.

Searching for a quick fix is not the answer we need today. No one can give us a quick fix when we need to heal or fix an ongoing problem. So, please don’t get discouraged if you are still unsure of how things will be as we move forward.

We want you to know one thing for sure that will hopefully give us all a little peace of heart and mind. God is here. He has not left us. He is forever going to be here for us, no matter what, as long as we draw near to Him.

Some may grow hard from their experience, depending on how hard the hit is. Some will be saddened and a bit discouraged, while others will say, “I am not going down without a fight”, and then they get so tired and burnt out that not only will they go down, but they will not get back up.

We are not going to give you a quick fix type of answer today. We are going to give you God’s word.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) 6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Let’s stay close, be strong and courageous and let Him fix our brokenness over time. He will not leave us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-10-20

James 1:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

If most of us were asked what or who we are tempted by, the vast majority would say that we are tempted by the devil.

And while this may be partially correct, let’s look closely at the verses above, where we will find some revealing insights about this.

First off, it’s important that we understand that we are never, ever tempted by God.

God has no darkness nor evil in Him, therefore He cannot tempt anyone with what is evil.

We are tempted by what is in us. Let me explain.

The scripture above states that we are tempted when we are drawn away by our own desires.

The desires within us cause us to be tempted, lured away, and drawn into sin. If we were 100% clean, and free of sinful desires, being tempted would have no power over us. We would simply turn and walk away without giving it (the temptation) a second glance.

But, because of what is hidden inside of us, we become tempted.

Maybe you’re asking how we can fix this, or how we can ever avoid being tempted and caught up in sin.

We have to learn to let God change our desires.

God has a way of “cleaning us up” that will remove our evil desires and replace them with righteous desires.

It doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, it doesn’t necessarily happen in a few days or a few weeks. It can happen that quickly in some cases, but that’s not the norm.

The cleaning up of our desires is a process that takes place as we surrender and submit to God, allowing Him to transform and renew our minds with His word, through the Holy Spirit.

So, how fast it happens for us is our own choice, based on how quickly we let Him go to work in our hearts and our minds.

One thing is for sure, though. As we do submit and surrender, we will never, ever be disappointed in what He does in us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-9-20

Genesis 22:2 (NKJV) 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

The promises of God and answered prayers can be oh so awesome. There is no doubt.

But it’s important for us to remember that they are not for us to hold onto with a tight fist.

When God gives us something that He said He would, we need to know that it is still His, and at any point He may switch it up and ask us to surrender it or let someone else hold it or keep it permanently.

Sometimes this is a test to see if we are willing to let it go.

Now, we are not necessarily talking about God asking us to do the same thing that He asked Abraham. That was for Abraham, and him alone.

We will have our own things that will be dear to us. It could be our finances, our addiction, our home, car, business or career title, etc. Everyone has their thing that means a great deal to them.

Do not hold on to God’s blessing so tightly that if the time comes, we won’t let go, not even for Him.

I remember one person in particular who was going through a financial struggle. They were praying and praying that God would save them from having to sell their home.

One day I felt impressed to ask them a specific question; “are you willing to let go of it if God wants you to?”

I could tell right away by their reaction that they may have been saying yes with their mouth, but their heart told a different story.

It’s our willingness and obedience that takes us on a walk of greatness with God. But if we can’t get there because things mean more to us than He does, it will be very hard for Him to use us to the full extent that He wants to.

We have got to understand that there may come a time when God asks for something that may mean everything to us. But, will it mean more to us than God?

Abraham went all the way, showing God that, as hard as it may have been to give up His promised son, Isaac, He would trust God.

God saw that he did not hold back even his most precious possession, and thus, he was able to keep Isaac. God knew from Abraham’s willingness that he would be trustworthy with all that God had for him.

Our question for everyone today is; is our heart in that place where if God asked for something meaningful, would we be willing to give Him whatever it might be?

Genesis 22:17 (NKJV) 17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.

May we all get to a place in our hearts where our heavenly Father can say to us, “you were willing and obedient, therefore keep what I have asked for and I will bless you with even more.”

Amen.
