Bible Verse of The Day – 2-17-21

2 Peter 1:5 (NKJV) 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,

Greetings!

Yesterday we started off with 2 Peter 1:10

We began breaking it down so we could get a better understanding of exactly what this verse means to us as believers.

When we left off yesterday, we had just touched on verse 4 and discussed what that verse means for us, as children of God.

Now, let’s move on to subsequent verses.

As we finished verse 4, we discovered that God has given us His divine nature, and He has given us an escape from the depravity that is in the world.

Verse 5, above, tells us that because of what was shown to us in verses 3 and 4, we should be diligent, adding to our faith, virtue and knowledge.

Verses 6 and 7 then go on to tell us to also add self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and finally, love.

Verse 8 tells us that if these things are ours (if they are present in our walk), and if they abound (if they are plentiful in our lives), we will neither be barren (literally translated as useless) nor unfruitful in our knowledge of (our walk with) Jesus Christ.

So, the summation of this, which is found in verse 10 (where we originally started yesterday), is that if we are truly walking with God, through faith in Jesus Christ, these attributes should be present and active in our lives on a regular basis.

If they are, it will be evidence of our faith. Additionally, it will also help to prevent us from stumbling (falling away).

If they are not, verse 9 tells us that we are shortsighted (even to the point of blindness), and that we have forgotten that we have been cleansed from our old (past) sins.

Lastly, verse 11 states that if we make our calling and election sure (following the patterns of verses 3-8), ” an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”.

Now that’s encouraging!

We hope you have enjoyed this breakdown of 2 Peter 1:3-11 and found it to be revealing and uplifting.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-16-21

2 Peter 1:10 (NKJV) 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

There are a few things that I’d like to take a look at here today.

Here they are; be more diligent, make your call and election sure, you will never stumble.

These three things are super-important to our walk with God and with regard to our eternal destiny.

Peter starts this verse off by telling us to be more diligent. So, let’s take a look at why he says to be more diligent, and not just to be diligent in a general sort of way.

In order to figure this out, we need to go back, and start with verse 3.

There in verse 3, Peter tells us that God, by His divine power, has “given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness”.

So, He has equipped us. By doing this, He has given us assurance of our standing as a child of God.

How did He do this?

Take a look at the last half of verse 3; He did this “through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue”.

So, what does that mean? It seems a little foggy on the surface, so let’s break it down.

We each become a child of God through gaining an understanding of Jesus Christ and who He is.

Once we understand who He is, we put our faith in Him and we trust Him with the salvation of our souls, through repentance and the forgiveness of our sins.

That’s the long version of the phrase, “the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue”.

So far, we know this; that God gave us all things that pertain to life and godliness because we know who Jesus is and we trust Him with our eternal destiny.

Are you with me so far?

Then, in verse 4 he tells us that through these (the things mentioned in verse 3) “have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises”.

What are those promises?

That “you may be partakers of the divine nature”. And that you (we) have “escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”.

Another word for “corruption” in this verse would be “depravity”. So, we have been given His divine nature, and we have escaped the depravity that is in the world through lust.

Whew! This is getting deeper, but hang in there. We will continue this tomorrow.

Stay tuned!

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-15-21

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

God is incredible in His wisdom and unlimited understanding. His omnipotence is beyond comprehension.

We can face so many different things in our lifetime. But God tells us that these things are simply light and momentary afflictions. He also tells us not to lose heart.

We have learned to trust God by the things He has brought us through.

We are here today because He has kept us standing when I thought we would no longer be able to stand.

He has brought us through the fire, so to speak, showing us many great and mighty things in the process.

It’s because of this that we can stand and proclaim His goodness and His faithfulness, even in the darkest of times.

And when confronted by anyone who may say that they’re not sure if they believe or not, I am always quick to say, “There’s no way I can’t believe. I have seen way too much”.

Yes, sometimes when we’re each going through our personal trials, they may seem as though they will kill us.

But it’s during these times that we can see God move the strongest on our behalf. We see our faith grow. And if we let Him, He will teach us to trust Him more than we would ever believe possible.

Every trial is different. Every situation is different.

And God moves differently in every situation. He is not a cookie-cutter God. He is not fenced in by our ideas and our finite understanding.

I write today to urge you to trust Him wholly. And don’t lose heart in your hour of testing, temptation or trial.

Don’t give up.

In fact, press in even more closely to Him when facing these kinds of times.

And as you do this, He will give you eyes to see and ears to hear.

He will show you great mysteries that will give you a deeper understanding and a deeper walk with Him.

We urge you today to seek Him. Seek Him on a level at which you have never sought Him before. Press in to Him. Draw near to Him. Call to Him.

Trust Him. And don’t lose heart.

He wants to show us so much. We just have to ask Him for it.

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) 3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-14-21 – I Will Trust

Please click to watch the video now.Greetings in the name of Jesus!

Have you ever noticed our tendency to trust God more when things are going the way we like it to go?

Let’s face it. It’s easier to trust in someone when you like what’s happening.

In today’s video, I Will Trust, we teach on this aspect of our walk with God and explain why we need to be sure to trust God no matter how things look.

This video is short and concise, so we hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-13-21

John 13:37-38 (NKJV) 37 Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake.” 38 Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times.

Boy, it’s hard to believe that Peter had one thought and Jesus had another.

Peter thought, “I will die for You Lord”. But Jesus said, “no, you will deny Me”.

So sad to think that Peter really meant it at the time, only to find out what he was really made of a short time later. How disappointed he must have been.

Who are we kidding when we tell ourselves that we would have done things differently than Peter did? We are human and we have weaknesses.

Just as Peter really wanted to do what he said, it was harder than he thought when he was face to face with it. And Jesus knew it.

How many of us will say yes to Jesus, but when it comes down to doing it, we are weak and do just the opposite at that time?

Never mind about laying our life down for Him, like Peter said he would do. How about just giving to Him from our firstfruits, tithing from what He has already blessed us with?

That’s all Jesus is looking for; a willingness to obey even in the simple things.

We are not going to be perfect in this. But if we are willing to obey, we will see God’s goodness.

Isaiah 1:19 (NKJV) 19 If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land…

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-12-21

Psalm 27:13 (NKJV) 13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.

Have you ever had something happen that made you feel like someone had kicked you square in the gut?

Life can sometimes deal some harsh blows. It’s just the reality of living as a human being.

Being a child of God does not make us immune to those harsh blows, contrary to what some might say, think or teach.

Trials and tribulations come for each of us.

The thing we need to remember is Who it is that brings us through those trials.

Sometimes it can be easy to feel hopeless and like we just want to throw in the towel and walk away. But the reality is that doing so accomplishes nothing. Nor does it make us any better off.

Giving up is easy, or so it might seem. But even in giving up there will be wreckage and debris to clean up afterward.

The best thing we can do is to pick ourselves up, let God help us to face our adversary and work through whatever we’re facing.

It is placing our hope in Him that keeps us from losing heart.

He needs to be our anchor in the midst of the storms that we face. Does that make it easier to face them?

That depends on us. If our minds are set on being angry, disappointed and miserable, then there is nothing that anyone can do to help us, including God Himself.

But once we understand that He is our source of strength and help, and that He is the well that we draw from when our joy is running out, then we can start taking steps forward and leaving our misery behind, one step at a time.

Why should we be hanging out in the land of the dead and miserable when He wants us to stay with Him in the land of the living?

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-11-21

Galatians 6:1 (NKJV) 1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

One of the best things we can do when we see someone in trouble is pray for them 1st.

That’s right; talk to God.

Unless He is telling us to speak up, we should observe the situation, but hold back until He tells us specifically to say something.

Sometimes we do it backwards. We make the mistake of talking to them first, out of concern, and it doesn’t end up very good. Many times it ends up in a heated argument or sore feelings towards each other.

Knowing exactly how to help someone can be hard and frustrating. We may think we are doing the right thing only to realize it wasn’t quite right for that particular time or person.

But the good intentions are there and most will see that.

I have had to learn over time that God knows best, even when something similar may have worked before.

Wait on His guidance in helping restore one in a spirit of gentleness. Don’t ever approach someone when we are fuming mad and upset.

Give it some time to cool down. Pull it together and pray first. Our words and attitude have a lot to do with how things turn out.

Proverbs 15:1 (NKJV) 1  A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-10-21

James 1:22 (NKJV) 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

What, exactly, is a doer of the word?

Most people instantly think of actions related to acts of kindness, or maybe actions related to “missions”.

But what was James really talking about? Let’s dig in and see!

First, James was referring to “being doers” of the word.

This tells us that “being a doer” is more than just an action or an act. When we “become a doer”, it means that we have taken on the attribute of doing as part of who we are, not just simply acting something out.

Let me explain further.

We can do something. That does not make us “a doer”. It just makes us an actor, so to speak. We feel an impulse and act on it. It is an action that isn’t necessarily tied to who we are.

When we “do” as James refers to “doing”, we become a “doer” because we are now going beyond a simple act of carrying out something that we think is good. We are “being a doer” because it is part of us. It is no longer just something we feel obligated to carry out or act upon.

If we do something simply because it seems right or feels good, and we believe that we are truly a doer in the sense that James teaches about, we are only fooling ourselves.

It comes down to the condition and the state of our heart.

And this will play out in our lives on a daily basis, one way or the other. We will simply do, or we will be a doer. One or the other.

Which one will we choose to be?

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-9-21

Matthew 3:1-2 (NKJV) 1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

Unless we hear the call to salvation through repentance, and we take action, there is no new birth in Christ.

Our hearts must hear the call; the nudging or tugging to get right with God and to remain in it, not simply make a decision today, and then tomorrow do whatever we want.

When we realize the state that we are in, and the need to become a child of God and change our lives, that is when we usually are ready to do whatever needs to be done to make it happen.

It is a state of repentance that draws our hearts toward God. A place we come to where we know we need to let go and make some big changes.

For some it is very hard to let go of the past. But that past must become history and we must learn from it, not live in it.

If we are a “past-liver” that’s where our heart will remain. And if anything remains still for too long, it becomes stagnant.

If we are like this, we will not grow or go very far with Christ. We will be a stagnant Christian. We will be motionless, still, lifeless, dead, or slack. None of us want that.

Hear what the word of God is saying to our hearts today.

Be quick to hear the call of repentance and walk in the fulness of His love and Salvation.

Share it with others, and stop thinking that what we have to say is meaningless. God’s word brings truth and life. It’s so important  that we speak it when He opens the door for us to do so.

John 6:63 (NKJV) 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-8-21

John 8:32 (NKJV) 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Truth is a funny thing.

Most people will automatically tell you that truth is a good thing if you were to ask them.

When we are confronted with truth that hurts, however, we may not be quite so sure about it being a good thing.

It’s all about perspective.

You see, that’s the funny thing about truth; it can sometimes be painful.

Sometimes it’s painful because it means watching someone we love go through a tough time, or maybe even losing them.

Other times, it means that we have to see something in ourselves that we don’t like so much.

What’s more, seeing it now means that we have to take responsibility for it and make changes if we want to please God and be who He wants us to be.

Truth is more than just looking into a mirror. We can look into a mirror, see ourselves, and still walk away and conveniently forget what we saw.

James 1:23-24 (NKJV) 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

It’s when we look into the mirror and then let the Holy Spirit show us who we really saw in that mirror that we are more inclined to grab the bull by the horns and do something about what we saw.

Thankfully, we serve a merciful God who gives us grace to work through what we see and what He shows us.

And He is faithful to give us what we need to fix those things in us that are broken and in need of repair or correction.
