Bible Verse of The Day – 1-25-24

Acts 16:6 (NKJV) 6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.

Paying attention to the promptings of the Holy Spirit is so very important, and even more so in the days we live in.

We could be walking into a dangerous situation at times, but with His guidance we will be able to withstand the wiles of the devil.

We can avoid a lot of problems if we remain sensitive and eager to follow His leading.

Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV) 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

There will be times when we may never know the reason for the things He keeps us from doing. We just need to know that by following Him we did the right thing, and it could have saved our life.

He tries to show us the importance of staying alert.

Acts 16:8-9 (NKJV) 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

Here we can see the Holy Spirit led them by a vision or a dream.

His word and prayer are the two primary ways that God leads us. He may also use a dream or a vision.

Are we open to such things today or have we completely disregarded them, thinking they were only for the apostles?

That is wrong for us to think. He is still the same God He was then. And the Holy Spirit is still the same Holy Spirit, speaking the same way He has always spoken.

God will lead all of us through the Holy Spirit if we are open to Him and let Him lead as He sees fit.

Psalm 32:8 (NKJV) 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

Bible verse of The Day – 1-24-24

Luke 23:43 (NKJV) 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Today you will be with Me in paradise.

This short sentence spoken by Jesus makes a huge statement about salvation.

We have all heard at one time or another that salvation comes by responding to an altar call, or by speaking specific words, inviting Jesus into our heart.

While this might not necessarily be wrong, it is confusing at best.

Salvation is simple. Humans complicate it.

Jesus was within hours of His own death. He was hanging on a cross next to two criminals who were also being put to death by crucifixion.

One criminal mocked Him. The other defended Jesus, recognizing His innocence and surrendering to Him, and then asking Him to remember him when he came to His kingdom.

He recognized Jesus for who He was, the long-awaited Messiah, and surrendered to Him right there on his cross.

What did Jesus do?

Did He tell the criminal that he needed to walk an aisle and accept an invitation to be saved?

Did He tell him that he must be baptized to be saved?

Did He tell him that he must confess his faith in Christ to others to be saved?

Did He tell him that he must pray “the sinner’s prayer” to be saved?

Absolutely not.

The man had already proven his faith in Jesus by His repentance and the words he spoke. The change in his heart had already taken place.

Luke 23:40-42 (NKJV) 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

Faith in Christ is a matter of the heart.

It is a choice we make within ourselves, as we recognize our own sinful state, to embrace the gift of salvation offered to us by God in His mercy and recognize the redemptive power of the shed blood of Christ, all in a split second!

In that moment, we move from death to life.

Tradition may say otherwise. It may tell us we need to do A, then B, and then C to be saved.

Let us be careful not to place boundaries on salvation that God did not create.

Acts 16:30-31 (NKJV) 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-23-24

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Before we ask God for wisdom, we must reach a place where we are willing to hear Him.

An open heart and the wisdom of God will take us to a new level in our walk with Him!

Growing close to God depends on how much we will let Him in. Will we let Him touch those places in our lives that we are most comfortable in or comfortable with?

This is a tough thing. We get so comfortable with familiarity, almost to the point of being protective of it.

We don’t want anyone to mess with it, bring change to it or cause any disturbance with it.

But, we need to recognize that the comfort we sometimes try to hold onto can be deceiving. In fact, it can be downright crippling. And it can very well be robbing us of great things that God wants to do in our lives; great change that needs to come.

Will we trust Him today, open up our heart and let Him touch us? Yes, in that place of comfort?

There may be a whole other life outside of our comfort zone.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

God bless you!

Bible Verse of the Day – 1-22-24

Zechariah 10:2 (NKJV) 2 For the idols speak delusion; The diviners envision lies, And tell false dreams; They comfort in vain. Therefore the people wend their way like sheep; They are in trouble because there is no shepherd.

These words were spoken by Zechariah, a prophet of God who was tasked with speaking God’s words to the people of Israel who had returned to their homeland from exile.

The people had grown lethargic and apathetic, due to the opposition they faced, and were failing to accomplish what God had told them to do; complete the rebuilding of His temple.

Instead of obeying God and honoring Him, they had fallen into following and honoring false gods and the words of diviners (fortune tellers).

The New Living Translation (NLT) of this verse reveals a bit more about this and states things a bit more plainly.

Zechariah 10:2 (NLT) 2 Household gods give worthless advice, fortune-tellers predict only lies, and interpreters of dreams pronounce falsehoods that give no comfort. So my people are wandering like lost sheep; they are attacked because they have no shepherd.

You see, because of their despondency, the Israelites had abandoned God and began wandering like sheep with no shepherd.

This is happening today as well, as we move headlong into end time events.

Many in the church have become lethargic, apathetic and despondent, turning to false gods, fortune tellers (horoscopes and astrologers), and people who claim to be prophets of God but operate by spirits of divination, etc.

These kinds of things lead many astray. They leave their followers with no Biblical foundation, and no true leadership.

And this causes many to wander aimlessly, just as what happened to the Israelites in the days of Zechariah.

We need to recognize and understand the dangers of this. Our source of hope and strength should be God, and Him alone.

There is no place for horoscopes and fortune tellers in the lives of followers of Christ.

We have one Spirit who should be leading us; the Holy Spirit.

Jesus promised His coming before He ascended to heaven. And come He did, with great power for believers!

Let us forsake the false gods and turn our hearts to the one true God, that we might have our flame for God reignited, shaking off the apathy and false teachings, giving Him all honor and glory.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-20-24

Mark 11:24 (NKJV) 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

We believe today that healing will come in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Amen.

We are believing with you today for healing over your body.

If you are sick and having problems with your health, we stand in agreement with you for complete healing. May God give you wisdom to take the necessary steps that need to be taken on your end.

If you are struggling with addictions, anxiety or depression, we pray for complete deliverance, that God will break the grip of the enemy over your life, and loose you in the name of Jesus.

If you are in need of financial breakthrough, we stand in agreement with you today for God to open the door that you need to walk through; that you may have the wisdom and follow the steps that God has shown you to take that will help you at this time in your life.

If your child is in need of help in any way, we stand with you today in agreement that the attack against them will be exposed. From their head to their feet, they will be set free from the enemy and his plan to take them out, whether by sickness, drugs, or decisions they have made.

May they chose God’s path, His protection, and His wisdom to keep them safe.

If your marriage is under attack and your family has been divided, we are believing with you today for God to give you wisdom to know what and how to pray for His complete healing and restoration over your home and family situation.

May the enemy’s grip be loosened from you and your family, that there will be no further destruction.

God is faithful to bring healing as we join in one accord, putting our trust in Him and standing on His promises!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-19-24

Psalm 73:26 (NLT) 26 My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever.

One of the things we can attest to as believers and followers of Christ is the steadfastness and faithfulness of God.

Our health may fail. We may face personal health crises that seem insurmountable, but God never fails.

We may grow weak in spirit due to attacks we face, hurdles that stand in front of us, or obstacles that seem immovable. But God never changes, and He never forsakes us.

He is the strength that keeps our heart from being destroyed.

Yes, our heart may be broken at times from the things that life hits us with. We may feel like our knees will buckle and our legs will fold beneath us. But God is the Giver of strength when we have run out.

It is important to note that the word used for “strength” in the verse above is literally “rock” in the original transcripts.

And He is our Rock.

He is the firm foundation upon which we can stand, knowing that He will never falter or fail.

Look at the obstacle standing in front of you and know that nothing is bigger than our God.

Nothing can defeat Him, and nothing catches Him off guard.

Difficulties may come, but our strength comes from Him, not from our flesh or the things of this world.

He is ever-present. He never forsakes us.

Let us hold fast to Him in obedience as He leads us through the storms of life.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-18-24

Acts 16:3 (NKJV) 3 Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in that region, for they all knew that his father was Greek.

Paul’s main concern was always to preach the gospel.

Even though Paul was free from all the religious hang-ups, etc., he was constrained by the weaknesses of others. So, he would enter their world to win them to Christ.

In this case, he wanted Timothy to go with him. But Timothy, being half Jew and half Greek, had not been circumcised.

Paul knew that taking him into the Jewish synagogues would be a problem. So, out of simple Christian courtesy, Timothy was circumcised.

We have to be mature when there are social, cultural and religious differences that try to stand in the way of preaching the gospel.

We need to let God give us His wisdom to do what it takes to reach the lost.

Sometimes it takes doing the uncomfortable thing.

Are we willing to do what it takes, like Paul and Timothy, to share the word of God?

It is all worth it in the end to know that there is rejoicing going on in Heaven when someone puts their faith in our Savior!

Praise be to God, He gives us the maturity we need to go beyond the uncomfortable and into unfamiliar territory to reach those in need today.

Amen.

Luke 15:7 (NKJV) 7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-17-24

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Jesus spoke these words for a good reason. He wanted it to be known that making God our top priority is critical in growing and maturing as a believer.

Making Him our priority can take on many different facets. And it affects many different areas of our lives.

One of the areas where we should be concerned with this is in making sure we don’t overcomplicate everything.

Our walk with God, and the way we learn of Him, should not be complicated.

Yes, God is incredibly massive in scope. He is beyond our human understanding.

But our pursuit of Him should not let that fact cause us to lose our focus.

There is one infinite resource that we have been given to teach us everything we need to know about God, and about our life as a believer; the Bible.

His word may sometimes be a bit hard to understand in certain areas, but most of it is very straight forward. And if we ask, He is faithful to give us understanding.

The place where most of us get mixed up is when we begin to jump from one resource to another to try to learn more about specific topics; how to grow our faith, how to pray more effectively, how to discern more accurately, etc.

And when we do this, it can seriously fragment what we learn, resulting in our efforts being so spread out that we may inadvertently go backwards, instead of moving forward.

God’s word always points us in one direction; to Him.

It never steers us wrong. And it is always accurate, with no chance of it giving us poor counsel.

The thing we need to remember is that we cannot learn of God accurately and thoroughly if we do not spend time in His word.

No, His word may not have a shiny cover with modern graphics and a catchy title, but it is the one true and accurate resource we have that will help us build our faith and our walk with Him on a firm foundation that has stood the test of time.

So, let us be sure to keep it simple.

We can’t let “shiny objects” distract us and keep us from receiving everything we need to grow and mature as a believer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-16-24

Psalm 9:1 (NKJV) 1 I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.

God has been so very faithful to me.

Sometimes I don’t see it all, but I’ve been learning to stop and watch. To stop and ponder. And to stop and praise Him.

I’ve been learning that life flies by. And if we don’t stop the busyness, or slow it down and notice the important things, they will fly by unnoticed as well.

There is no, “thank you God for what you just did for me,” because I didn’t stop long enough to see it. I didn’t even notice it took place. Yet, He did it for me. I’m just too busy carrying on with my usual stuff.

Changes are happening all the time.

People that were sick are now feeling better. People that were in hardship are now past those hard times and moving forward.

People that needed to make difficult decisions have made them and moved past it, and are now in a different place.

See what He is doing in our life, and take the time to thank Him, to praise Him, and to recognize that He did it!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-15-24

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV) 22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

We are all frail, fickle, wishy-washy human beings.

We are prone to failure.

We are prone to making bad choices.

We are prone to disappointing God in our actions.

But because of His mercies, we are not destroyed.

Because He is faithful, His mercies are new every morning.

If we fall, we get back up. If we fail, we try again.

You see, we are saved by grace, not by works. It is the gift of God.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

God doesn’t ask for perfection. He asks for obedience.

Should we try to fail less often? Absolutely.

Christianity without growth is questionable.

When a person becomes a Christian, growth is implied. God never intended for someone to become His child and not mature.

But it’s not those efforts to grow that save us. We can’t buy our redemption. We can’t bribe God with manufactured righteousness.

And if we do stupid stuff, a sincere heart of repentance, and a genuine effort to change is all God asks for.

As the scripture says at the beginning of this devotional, because of His mercies, we are not consumed.

So, if you’re struggling to get it right, if you’re wrestling with sin or a complacent spirit, don’t beat yourself up.

Recognize it in yourself and surrender it to God. Submit yourself to Him and follow His leading.

He will show us what to do. We just need to do it.
