Tag: What the Bible says about our lives being a vapor

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-12-25

Ecclesiastes 3:2 (NKJV) 2 A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;

Most of us think very little about the brevity of our lives; the limited time we have here on earth in this human skin.

It is natural for us not to think about because we are busy living.

We do need to think about this from time to time, however, because doing so helps us to put things into perspective and keep our priorities straight.

This should not be considered a morbid topic. It should not be something that we fear to speak about or discuss with others.

Death is a fact of life. Ignoring it will not make it go away.

David expressed this well in the following Psalm.

Psalm 39:4-5 (NKJV) 4 “Lord, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am. 5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah

Our lives are nothing more than a vapor, a short span of time, and then we are gone.

So, considering this, we should make it a point to weigh our lives and use what we see to make adjustments that give our lives more purpose and more meaning.

What do our priorities look like?

Do we spend our time in ways that impact others for the kingdom of God?

Do we put God above all else?

Are we grateful to God for what He has blessed us with?

These three questions can shape (or re-shape) our lives if we take them seriously.

The question is, do we?

This may be very sobering for many of us. But that should not cause us to ignore it. On the contrary, we need to consider it.

Let today be the day that we ask ourselves what our legacy here will be when we are gone.

How will we be remembered? But more importantly, what impact will our life have for God’s kingdom?

That is the question for us all to consider.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-23-18

James 4:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Life. We so often look at it as though it will last forever.

But we will all one day realize that life here on earth is temporal and fleeting.

It seems that every week during the last few months we have been reminded again and again of the fragility and fleetingness of life. It truly is only a vapor that is here and gone before we know it.

Friends, acquaintances, family and loved ones leave us, and leave a gaping hole in our hearts, as we say goodbye to them and mourn their passing.

Today we celebrated our oldest grandson’s 11th birthday. Such young life, full of vitality and energy! And so incredible to watch as he grows up right before our eyes, as are all four of our grandchildren.

But even as we watch them grow, we also say goodbye to others. And our hearts ache with the loss. It’s something that we all deal with at different times in our lives; Loss and mourning.

But know this; God wants us to let Him help our hearts heal. No, the person we have lost can never be replaced. But God can touch our hearts and heal them in a way that we might never think possible, if only we will let Him.

So, today we continue to remind everyone about how precious life is, and how not one person reading this is promised a tomorrow. So be sure to love those around you with your whole heart. Forgive and ask for forgiveness quickly.

Take the time to do those things that you want to do with those who are close to you. Don’t leave yourself open to living many years of regret when someone you love passes from this life to eternity.

Life is here. And then it is gone. Let’s live it while it’s here. And love while we can.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-16-15

Psalm 39:5 (NKJV) 5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.

We are, at the very best, vapor.

It doesn’t matter what we attain, what we accomplish or how much we accumulate while we’re alive here on earth. In the end, we are all the same.

We can be a homeless person on the street or the CEO of a billion dollar global corporation, living in a multi-million dollar mansion. It doesn’t matter. Because when we breathe our last breath, our life has been no more than a vapor.

We may live to be a hundred years old. And we may be looked upon as being alive for many decades, but in the eyes of God, our age is nothing.

Life goes by so fast. I always tell people who have a newborn baby that they had better not blink, because if they do, their child will be an adult and moving out of the house to get married.

Many people chuckle when I say that to them, but years later, they tell me how true it is, as they see their children growing up so quickly.

We need to cherish each day that we’re given. Each day is a gift from God, not ours to dawdle away or waste.

We need to love those around us and spend time with them while we can. We never know when we will see someone for the last time.

Let’s live life with purpose, not letting it slip through our fingers. This may sound cliché, but it’s a truth that only we can embrace and bring to reality in our own lives. Nobody can do it for us.

So love God and those He has placed in your life. It doesn’t get any better than that.
