Tag: What the Bible says about resting in God

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-17-25

Psalm 23:4 (LSB) 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

This verse can teach us a lot about handling times and seasons in our lives when the road we’re traveling gets hard.

How we handle those hard times tells us a lot about ourselves.

We get angry, annoyed, and frustrated.

Or maybe we feel sorry for ourselves, wallowing in self-pity and convincing ourselves that we don’t deserve what we’re suffering through.

We’ve all been guilty of this at one time or another in our lives. It’s OK to admit it.

One thing is clear, based on the verse above; we cannot always expect God to immediately deliver us from these kinds of difficult situations.

So, instead of focusing on the negative aspects of the trial we’re up against, we should push forward and allow God to comfort us as we “walk through the dark valley” that we are currently in.

A time will come when we are past the situation, and then we can rest.

But in the middle of a difficult trial is not that time.

These are the times when we must seek God and get His direction as to the best way to navigate this. We need His wisdom, insights, and His strength to sustain us and bring us through to the other side.

This requires sacrifice on our part. And it requires hard work, perseverance, and fortitude.

We were never promised that our lives would be easy because we follow Jesus.

On the contrary, Jesus told us that trials and tribulations would come. But that we should have courage to face them because He has already overcome the world!

John 16:33 (LSB) 33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

So, let us not spend our time wallowing in our self-pity. But let us set our faces like a flint, and when we have done all we can to stand, let us stand even stronger.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-8-25

Psalm 37:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm.

Rest and wait; do we see it in this verse?

These two things are probably the two most difficult things for any of us to do.

Once we take the steps to work at trying to achieve them, we will find out that they go hand in hand. If we can rest in the Lord fully, we will more than likely have no problem waiting on Him. The wait will be effortless.

When we rest in the Lord we are basically saying that we trust His timing and His way above ours. This will settle our minds right down.

We can get distracted in this process very easily. One thing that’s very common is that we start looking around and comparing. This may cause us to start fretting and taking things into our own hands.

We must stay focused and not get distracted with what is going on around us.

I’ll be real with you; we are all good at analyzing. Probably our best quality!

We are all good at seeing what others are doing. And if we are not careful, it can make us ugly on the inside with envy and bitterness. And it can lead us into becoming very angry people.

Don’t go there. It does more harm than good.

Wait on God with the right heart. He is faithful to answer our request!

Keep our focus by taking our eyes off everyone/everything else, and look toward the hills.

Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV) 1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-20-23

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Are you tired today? Do you hurt? Are you so busy you don’t have time to think about anything else other than what you must do next?

No time to just sit and ponder on the good things, just trying to keep up with it all. Trying to make sure everything is done. Dotting every I and crossing every T.

You are not alone.

Most of this world is feeling the same way. It’s called being “heavy laden”!

If you look around, you will see it on most faces you pass by.

They may be even busier than you. This is why we have to catch ourselves and snap out of this pace. It’s not good to always be this heavy.

We will miss out on so many good moments in life if we stay in this busy zone.

Our family needs us, not just the things we provide for them. They need our voice, our love, our hugs, our stories, our laughter and the balance that we can bring!

But if we are not taking time out for them, we are missing it big time. We are way off.

This is a warning to someone today.

Your family and loved ones need you. And they need YOU to need them.

It’s time to stop this routine that has been going on for some time now, and make a new one; one that can bring you rest, joy and lots of hugs.

You can’t keep it up; you will drop. And those who love you will have to pick up the pieces.

Today, take a step to do what’s right for you and your family. Rest in Jesus Christ. He will give you wisdom to balance everything out.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-1-22

Psalm 37:7 (NKJV) 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

Resting in and waiting on the Lord are probably the two things we most often overlook as believers.

Resting and waiting go hand and hand in showing God how much we trust Him.

When we find this rest, it simply means we have learned to trust Him enough to allow Him to help us, carry us, teach us, correct us, protect us, etc. The “waiting patiently” part will follow.

Once we get it, it won’t be so hard to balance out our emotions.

Our emotions can try to run us and cause us to fear, to be anxious and to doubt. Most of all, they can wear on us and cause us to faint, give up, lose our faith and pull away.

But God’s word says that if we wait on Him, we will not faint! Our strength will be renewed. We will rise up. We will run and not be weary.

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

We believe that God is telling us today to enter into His rest and wait on Him. Trust, endure and receive the promises He has for us, in His timing.

To endure means to remain or last; to go all the way.

Some of us are tired and we are just about ready to throw in the towel.

Don’t do it! Hold fast just a little longer and it will all be worth it.

Endure and obtain His promise.

Hebrews 6:15 (NKJV) 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-6-22

Hebrews 4:9-10 (NKJV) 9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

Do we feel guilty sometimes when things are going well and life seems like it’s good for us?

Sometimes it might cause us to feel guilty, and we might almost feel like we may not be doing enough on our end.

As Christians, we have a tendency to feel like it’s not right when we are not working hard, or even if we take a rest because we’re exhausted from our work.

I’ve seen this in many churches over the years with people in leadership positions. They beat themselves up over it to the point where they lose the joy and purpose of what they’re doing.

So, this is just a little reminder that there will come days of reaping, and seasons of rest from our labors. That’s right; both, corporately as a church, and on a personal one-on-one level. Don’t fight it when your “season of rest” comes. It’s our time to receive!

We are all in different seasons on this journey together. Some are in the ground-plowing season. Some may be in planting season. Some are in watering season and, yes, some are in the reaping and resting season. Hallelujah!

Don’t feel guilty when it’s time to rest and don’t feel guilty when it’s time to reap from our labor.

The good Lord will remind us all that we reap from what we sow and the day will come when our reaping is here. Enjoy it and give thanks!

Galatians 6:7 (KJV) 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

God is GOOD!

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-21

Philippians 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Spiritual warfare can wear on you after a while.

Our minds and bodies can become tired from the constant onslaught and the endless battles we face and fight each day. This is even more true when it comes to lengthy battles.

At some point, we need a reprieve; a break in the battles that are waged against our minds, where the enemy likes to play the most.

The verse above is just; a prescription for peace of mind and a rest in between battle fronts.

God’s word is absolutely the best weapon we have against so many of the things that we fight with.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s mental fatigue, anxiety, or even physical exhaustion. God’s word holds the cure.

We need to be sure to set time aside to dig into His word and feast on it, so we will have the words of God firmly embedded in us, allowing us to draw from that well at any point in time, allowing us to meditate and ponder on the goodness of God in a split second.

It doesn’t matter if we need His reassurances, His promises, His peace, His mercy or His grace.

We find it all in His word. And it’s when we meditate on it that He rebuilds our strength, eases our minds, renews our spirit and even cleanses our heart.

So, don’t give up the fight. Meditate, instead, on the things of God that heal us and bring strength to us again.

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-11-20

Matthew 11:29 (NKJV) 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Are you tired and weary? It’s safe to say that most of us go through periods where we feel like we can’t take one more thing.

Sometimes life can really throw some stuff at us that make us feel like we just need some peace, some rest.

Most of us will automatically think of getting rest as maybe we need some sleep.

But if we get sleep, and the storm is still raging all around us when we wake up, we will still have no rest for our souls.

Do you know when we will find rest for our souls? When we take the yoke of Jesus upon us and find our rest in Him.

You see, Jesus told us plainly that we need to do that. And then He said we need to learn from Him!

As we learn from Him, He will teach us what true rest is and what it feels like. And once we get that understanding in our spirits, we will never again settle for anything less. There will be no need to do so!

So, we urge you today to take the yoke of Jesus upon you. Learn from Him. Press into Him. Draw near to Him, and seek Him with all your heart.

Then, and only then will you find rest for your souls.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-7-20

Psalm 62:7 (NKJV) 7 In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God.

And our refuge is in God; Our safe place, our stability, our peace and our strength. So, where do we want to be? In God!

Today we have to ask ourselves, “where am I?”.

Am I in my head? Am I in my work? Am I into my status and my reputation? Where am I?

Am I in my thoughts, my concerns, my constant caring about situations? Where am I?

We need to get our whole being in Him. That means, all this stuff weighing on us? We need to take it to the cross, lay it at His feet, and listen to His directions.

God is our salvation. His is our glory, our ROCK and strength. Most importantly, we need to know He is our refuge, as long as we are in Him.

How do we get in Him? Through a one-on-one personal relationship with Him, through His perfect Son, Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV) 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-11-19

Matthew 11:30 (NKJV) 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

My Yoke is easy.

Why then are we carrying such a heaviness in our hearts?

Are we in our heads, relying on our intellect and human understanding to figure everything out? This has got to be one of the most common things among us all; Figuring things out.

This is what starts the heaviness, being in our heads. Thinking. Constantly thinking.

This is something we all have to get balanced in. When we are faced with heavy stuff, we need to remind ourselves of what Jesus is saying, and understand that God does not always require us to figure things out.

He asks us to come to Him, let Him figure it out. We are to rest and follow His leading, taking the steps as He opens up the door. Amen.

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Get that stuff off our mind, out of our head. Let Jesus touch our hearts with His peace that we may walk in His understanding.

Come, take rest.

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-21-18

Psalm 9:10 (NKJV) 10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Knowing that we have Someone to turn to is very comforting.

We have Someone to listen to us, Someone to hold us and carry us through this life when things can sometimes get complicated. We are truly blessed with having Him by our side at all times!

He is our Lord, our Savior, our Christ.

When life gets hard, know that it’s OK to cry. It’s OK to have a moment of time when we can just throw ourselves in Papa’s arms and ask Him to carry us through. We reach a point where we just say, ”I’ll do what you say. Just lead me”.

When these times come upon us we can run away from God, or we can run to Him. We can be discouraged and depressed, or we can get excited knowing that we have Someone to help us!

Don’t give up when faced with trials. This is our time to rise above whatever it is that we face, with God’s help!!

It’s our moment in life to watch Him shine as we rest fully in Him.

Psalm 18:1 (NKJV) 18 I will love You, O Lord, my strength.
