Bible Verse of The Day – 1-24-14

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New King James Version) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Our own understanding can sometimes be the biggest source of frustration!

Our heads think one way, but the spirit of God can, many times, lead us in directions that our head can’t make sense of.

But take a close look at the verse above. It tells us that if we trust in God with all our heart and we don’t lean on our own understanding, and we acknowledge God in everything, He will direct our paths!

When we pull back from always trying to make sense of everything and trying to figure it all out, and we really trust God, that’s very often when we will see things start to happen for us. And then things will start to make sense to us!

This can be hard to get used to, but once we get it, it can make our lives so much easier.

So trust Him with all your heart, don’t try to figure it all out, acknowledge Him in everything and let Him direct your path.

God will take care of the rest!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-23-14

Psalm 86:10 (NKJV) For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.

As I was doing some things today, sorting out my thoughts and contemplating my life in general right now, in light of everything we’re going through, one thing came to mind.

You alone are God.

Life can throw some pretty harsh stuff at us. We all have different things to deal with and nobody really ever knows what we’re dealing with, except ourselves and God.

And I don’t mean “we” or “us” as Pastor Ellie and I. I’m referring to everyone who is reading this. We all have things that come our way and we have to sort through it all, make the right choices, hear God’s voice in the middle of the storms and keep moving forward with our lives.

Our flesh and our minds can have a hard time dealing with everything, but in the midst of our storms, He alone is God.

He alone can calm the seas. He alone can bring peace when the waves are crashing all around us.

And He alone can reach out, take our hand and pluck us out of the terrifying, storm-ravaged sea when we’re just about to go under.

So in the midst of your own personal trials and tribulations, look to Him and tell Him; “You alone are God”.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-22-14

(Acts 7:9-10 NKJV)  “And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him {10} “and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

People are people, whether back in the Bible days, or today. Things haven’t changed. People all around get envious, sometimes over the little things, and other times over big things. We can’t escape it.

When people get envious they do and say stupid things about the one they are envious of. This can cause repercussions, or backlash, but they won’t win.

No matter what it looks like, hang in there. Don’t give up on God, for He won’t give up on us. Even when things are at their worst, He will deliver us out of all our troubles.

We serve an AWESOME God!

We want to make it, so stick with the MAKER!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-21-14

Proverbs 10:12 (NKJV) Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins.

Hatred and strife go hand in hand.

Have you ever walked into a place where the atmosphere just felt tense and where there just seemed to be tension in the air? This can almost always be attributed to strife or hatred.

People who carry hatred in their hearts will always bring strife with them wherever they go. They may not necessarily try to bring strife, but because they have hatred inside of them, strife goes wherever they go.

More important, though, is love. Love covers all sins.

Love heals wounds. Love brings peace.

Love stops strife in its tracks.

Love isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but it is something we must learn to do if we want victory in our lives.

Love conquers all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-20-14

(Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV)  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; {7} and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Being anxious for nothing means to not try to make something happen before it’s time. But to wait for God, His knowhow, His timing and His release. This has got to be one of the hardest things for me at times.

I am a person that when I know something needs to be done, I just want to get it over with; I want to do it and put it behind me. You can imagine my fight and struggle at times with this verse. I have to remain obedient and surrender my ideas, my timing and knowhow to God.

How many times a day do I have to remind myself of this verse? It depends on the season that I’m in. There are days when this verse stretches me in areas that hurt because of my personality of wanting things done NOW! It causes me to humble myself and let God work things out, trusting Him and knowing that His plan is better than MINE!!

The important thing is to follow the rest of this verse, after we get past the being anxious part. It says to pray and be thankful!!

Don’t forget these very important steps because this is why He tells us to be anxious for “nothing”.

Do not be so focused on the one situation going on in our lives that is causing problems, that we forget or lose site of everything else that is going on.

Be prayerful and  thankful for everything that is happening in our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-18-14

(2 Chronicles 31:21 NKJV)  And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered.

Hezekiah prospered because he sought God in all that he did, with all of his heart.

Hezekiah was a King and he had to choose how to rule the kingdom. He chose to seek God and do it His way. He did it with all his heart. What does it say happened? He prospered.

God did it for Hezekiah, He’ll do it for us.

(Acts 10:34 NKJV) Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.

When we choose to seek God with all of our heart in all that we do, He will show us how and what to do in our situations today. We too will prosper!

Seek God with all our hearts in all that we do today. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-17-14

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV) In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Give Thanks. In Every Thing.

Doesn’t leave much room for us to wiggle our way out of this, does it?

In everything we do, in every situation, in every emotion we feel, in every thought we think, Give Thanks.

Give thanks once in a while? Or give thanks when we’re happy? Give thanks when we receive a blessing?

Nope!

Give Thanks. In Every Thing!

Notice that it doesn’t use the word “everything”? It says “every thing”. So in every thing that comes our way, we need to give thanks.

Every situation, every mood, every circumstance. Give Thanks.

This might not be the easiest thing to learn, but each and every one of us can get this right if we determine in our heart to do so, and then we ask God to help us get it right.

So the next time we feel like grumbling, or our mood isn’t the best and we want to lash out at someone, Give Thanks.

It will fix our attitude in a hurry!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-16-14

(Luke 4:41 NKJV)  And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ.

Jesus shows us by example what we are to do to demons. He does not let them speak!

He doesn’t care that they know who He is… they are not to be heard. In other words, shut them up! How do we do this? Through the authority that Christ gave us as His children!

If we have Christ in us, meaning we have received Him as our Lord and Savior, Christ’s authority lives in us!

(Luke 10:19 NKJV)  “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Don’t be afraid to shut the demons up, cast them out, or rebuke them!

They have to listen, not to us, but the authority that lives in us through the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-15-14

(Psalm 16:8 NKJV)  I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

The Bible doesn’t tell us that we won’t go through hard things or tough times. But it does tell us that when we do, “We shall not be moved”. Why? Because, we have set Him before us!

What are some of the things that try to come against us when we face hard times or tribulations?

The first thing is worry and stress.

Jesus tells us in  (Luke 12:22 NKJV)  Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on.

He gives us His answer to worry and stress right off the bat. He says “don’t do it”.

The second thing that tries to get to us is anxiety.  God clearly tells us what anxiety will try to do to us if it gets in.

(Proverbs 12:25 NKJV) Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.

Stay positive no matter how hard the fight looks; don’t give in to depression or negative talk.

The third thing to watch out for is fear; it will try to grip us in the worst way.

God tells us in  (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV)  For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

If God has not given it to us then don’t fall for it. Rebuke that spirit of fear, in the name of Jesus. Amen

This is how we set the Lord before us, by knowing what His Word says, speaking it over our lives and walking in it daily! Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-14-14

Hebrews 2:18 (NKJV) For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Temptation is something that we all deal with, each and every day, in one way or another.

There is not a human being alive, or has ever lived, who was not tempted. It’s part of life.

But here’s the thing. Being tempted isn’t a sin.

It’s how we deal with temptation that reveals what’s inside of us. Whether we give in to it or walk away will show our true colors, both to others and to ourselves.

So how do we overcome temptation and make the right choice when satan is knocking at our heart’s door? What’s the secret formula for defeating temptation, instead of temptation defeating us?

We make a conscious choice to walk away. Sounds pretty straight forward, doesn’t it?

James 4:7 (NKJV) Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

See? We have to grow a backbone and learn to walk away from the things that tempt us. Yes, sometimes it can be pretty difficult to convince our flesh to walk away, but the more we resist, the easier it becomes.

And understand that not a single one of us goes through temptation that’s unique. There is nothing new, even in these days of modern technology, internet, HD video, or otherwise. It’s the same old sin wrapped in shiny new packages!

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

So let’s not fall prey to the enemy’s sorry schemes. Let’s stand strong in God’s power and might and learn to recognize these tactics for what they are. And then let’s walk away and thank God for the strength to do so.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-13-14

(James 5:16 NKJV)  Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

This weekend I visited a medium security prison to visit a brother. We talked, shared and laughed.

It was time for me to leave and we hugged goodbye. As the prisoner walked away, I watched as my heart sank. I was free to walk out and to leave that place, while he waited in line to enter back in to his cell. He was a prisoner.

It made me realize that without Christ we are prisoners; prisoners to sin. There is no freedom without Christ. There is a jail cell with our name on it if we don’t choose Him.

My heart goes out to those people today; those that don’t know Christ as their Lord and Savior, for they are prisoners.

How can we reach them? How can they be set free and healed?

We can start by praying. Pray for those we know who need Jesus and His Salvation.

Prayer avails MUCH!!

Amen.
