Bible Verse of The Day – 2-19-24

Mark 12:41-44 (NKJV) 41 Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. 42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. 43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; 44 for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”

Over the years, I have realized that many Christians have it all wrong when it comes to their giving.

What do I mean by that?

I mean that many Christians who give regularly do so only “when they can afford it” but quickly stop when money gets scarce.

They give what they feel to be a “reasonable” amount until things get financially tight. Then, when things get a little tough, they forfeit their giving. They quit.

Rarely do people like this tithe. They feel that giving 10% of their income is too much to ask. And they may even say that tithing was an Old Testament thing related to The Law.

This line of thinking goes something like this; Money has gotten tight, so I can no longer afford to give to God.

And how do I know this?

Because I used to be one of those Christians. I would give each week, usually far less than what would be considered a tithe. And then if things got tough, I would stop giving. I would quit.

But if we look at the example above, with Jesus observing the people as they “put money into the treasury”, He never suggested that the poor widow should not tithe or give according to her income.

On the contrary, He noted that she gave more than the rest despite her poverty.

This flies in the face of thinking that we should give what we can afford, and then we stop giving if things get tough.

Many years ago, during one of the toughest times we faced financially, God spoke very clearly to us and told us that we needed to tithe, trusting Him with our finances and our situation at that time.

We had no idea how that would work out, since we were already not able to keep up with our bills.

But we obeyed. We trusted God and took Him at His word, and we began sowing 10% of our income each week, even though I was unemployed, and we were living on very little income.

We didn’t look at it as us making a sacrifice. We looked at it specifically as us obeying God.

You see, it was all His money anyway. We were just stewards who had been entrusted with managing what He had provided.

And as we stepped out in obedience, He began to show us how trustworthy He is.

No, hordes of money did not suddenly come rolling in. And no, our situation did not instantly go from bad to excellent.

But as we continued to trust Him and obey Him, He slowly worked things out.

Some bills that we owed were mysteriously marked as “paid in full” with no explanation as to how or why.

Putting Him first in our finances taught us how to be diligent and faithful with what He had provided for us.

And, over time, He pulled us out of the hole we had gotten into.

That was roughly 30 years ago. And we have never looked back.

No matter what has hit us, we have never stopped obeying God. He still comes first. We still obey Him.

And He continues to prove that He is faithful. He is still the same yesterday, today, and forever.

There is none like Him.

And we can attest to the fact that tithing is never about whether we can afford it or not.

It is about whether we trust God or not.

Put him first. Obey Him. You will never regret it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-6-23

Matthew 6:24 (NKJV) 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

If God is our master, He needs to come before anything else. That includes our finances; our money.

There are two questions we must get answered from God before we know for sure we are serving Him correctly with our money.

Where do You want me to sow and tithe Your 10% of my wages?

Where do You want me to invest any extra You may bring into my hands?

These questions we bring before God will get us started on the right path.

We will begin to see things change for us as we make Him master over our money and our lives.

It can be difficult for us to do this because we need to look to and lean on God for everything.

In this world we live in, we use money to supply ourselves with the essentials that we need.

The Holy Spirit helps to keep us balanced in these two areas, leaning on God for guidance and using our money the way He wants us to.

When our situation starts to change, we can’t allow ourselves to accidentally start putting our confidence back into what we have instead of WHO we have!

If we put God before everything and everyone, we will find that perfect balance in our walk.  All our needs will be met, while we have a wonderful relationship with Him.

Living in obedience with our finances will cause us to be confident, not in our money, but in Him and His guidance, His love and His stability for us. Amen.

Ask God today to help us make Him master over everything we own.

We will be surprised how He will bless us in all the areas we surrender to Him.

And we will find ourself in a place we’ve always wanted to be in, but knew we could not get to on our own.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-7-23

James 2:18 (NKJV) 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Following God, and obeying His leading, is easier for some than for others.

Some people do their best to follow God but find it difficult to keep doing so when the rubber meets the road and God asks them to do something difficult or uncomfortable.

Others seem to have less difficulty, seemingly zipping down the path of life and never batting an eye, even when God places something before them to do that’s difficult.

The difference between the two people lies in how much they really trust God.

Both say they trust God and have faith in Him, but their actions speak much louder than their words.

If we say we trust Him, but we run away when facing difficulties or when He asks us to do something hard, then our trust isn’t what we might think or say it is.

The test of a believer is when God puts His finger on something in our lives and asks us to obey Him.

When life is going well for us, we usually have no trouble obeying Him and doing what He asks. But when we’re being pinched, and things are tough, we may start to hesitate and make excuses to try to avoid stepping out and obeying.

Now, let’s get real and talk about something that’s extremely sensitive, and very telling when God puts His finger on it and asks us to obey Him; money.

Money is something so few believers want God to put His finger on and ask them to part with.

But the believer who has strong faith, and who truly trusts God with everything, will obey Him and do whatever God asks them to do with the money and material things He has blessed them with. And they will trust God to continue to provide for them in whatever way He sees fit.

Why?

Because they know and understand that everything they have is His, not theirs.

It all belongs to Him!

We are stewards. Nothing more, nothing less.

Steward: a person who manages another’s personal or financial affairs or possessions. administrator, manager, agent

What we have been given possession of is only for a season. There just might come a time when God asks us to open our hands and pour out what He has entrusted us with.

And that day will tell us a lot about ourselves.

That day will eventually come for each and every one of us.

What will we do? Will we clench our fists tightly, determined to hold on to what God wants us to surrender, or will we open our hands and say, “here it is, Father. Do with it as you will”.

Which one are we?

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-1-19

Malachi 3:10 (NKJV) 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.

Is our money spent before we even cash our check? Are we just buying things on the spur of the moment, things that we don’t need? Are we dining out more then we dine at home?

Watching what we spend our money on and taking the time to invest it into a good place will help us to be the head and not the tail. God is willing to do His part, but are we willing to step up to the plate and do ours? He can only work with what we give Him.

Deuteronomy 28:13 (NKJV) 13 And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.

We may not even think about God when it comes to our money. We just keep on doing what we’ve always done and leave Him out of the equation. And we find ourselves constantly in the same boat; never ahead.

God wants to help us. He wants to open for us the windows of heaven and pour out blessings.

We challenge you today, if you are not already giving to God from your firstfruits, start by setting a date and begin to put Him first on your list of expenses. Watch how things begin to change for you.

We are not saying it will happen instantly. It may or may not. But, as you are faithful and obedient with your money, you will at some point begin to see His favor working in your life. You will notice at times looking at your situation and wondering how it ever worked out the way it did. Well, that’s God!

God is good. Invest in Him. He is trustworthy and a safe place to deposit into.

Luke 6:38 (NKJV) 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-20-17

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

There is no rest when we find ourselves struggling from day to day with finances. It can pull on our relationship with God, our family, and any other relationships we may have.

The heaviness of it can cause us to lose our desire to fight or to keep going. Depression, negativity and loneliness can set in, making us feel like we are in a constant battle that we can never win.

How do we win this battle? How long will it take to feel like we are above and not beneath?

Many people have financial issues. Why? Because, there are very few that grow up being taught how to properly handle finances; How to save, how to give, how to spend, etc.

There is a lack of preparation and teaching in the home when it comes to how to properly handle our finances.

God’s word teaches us His principles regarding money.

He makes us think about what place money holds in our heart. Is it first place? Is it second place, or third etc.?

Only we can answer this. When we figure out what place money holds, then we can begin, because this very important question will tell us where the change needs to come in.

Matthew 6:21 (NKJV) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

If we want to fully serve Jesus, we need to give Him our finances. Ouch. That’s tough, because many of us like to think our finances are our finances, period.

And many of us probably think that this is the one area of our lives that we can handle and have some control over.

If we are financially broke and things are not good, then really, what control do we have? We may say, “well if I had more money I could make it work”.

That is the point…it’s not about how much we have. It’s about what we do with what we have.

Once we know the right steps to take with our finances, we won’t have to think about how much we have or need. What we have will begin to work for us as we put it in its proper place.

Our finances have come from God. He owns everything. It is time we acknowledge Him with them and say…

Dear God, take my finances. Forgive us for this mess and help us do what is right with the money you have blessed us with. No matter how much we have, we are thankful for it and give it to You. Show us how to handle it properly, that it may glorify YOU. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Let God move on our hearts today in taking the first step. We may need to sit down and start a new budget by giving Him first place on that list.

We are excited to hear of the changes to come as you step out in obedience and in faith today!
